I've got those on my windshield. As far as I can tell they don't do anything to radar but will definitely diminish laser reception. If you care about laser you should mount below or to the side of the dots. The other thing they'll do it make it impossible to use your suction cups around the mirror. My fix for that is a small piece of plexiglass stuck to the dots with double-sided mounting tape.
My Expedition has those bumpy things too that's a good reason to stay away from a high mount.
It can't be the antenna because mine is in the third seat passenger window.
I have navigation but I think I have seen it in other non navigation windows.
What are those?

The dots are just dots, that are there for no apparent reason.
You could scrape them off... or you could just buy a Saab (from me maybe?)
they're there to block the sunlight since there's no visor to flip down. I put my X50 up there and the cups stuck to it pretty good if I wet them, stick the cups, and let it "dry" before mounting the detector.Originally Posted by SmaartAasSaabr
I see a lot of people here with their detectors mounted very high on their windshields (almost right up to the roof). I remember someone posting somewhere that their rear view mirror was blocking their radar reception without their knowledge. They didn't discover this until later. Can mounting your detector too high, or too close to the rear view mirror, diminish any type of range for the detector, as in blocking the antenna?
Unless you have a V1 or somesuch that is somehow mounted in front of the rearview which would likely block the rear antenna and make it into a super-duper reflective front antenna to assist-turbocharge the front antenna. hmmm.

I think he's saying that if you have it mounted in front of the rearview mirror, radar signals from the front will bounce off of the rearview mirror and into the rear-facing antenna. Thus radar that comes from the front will be picked up by both antennas (antennae?).
