In the end, though, I missed the arrows and the ramp up on the Redline was terrible. I also worried about the IO issues as I had a couple of close calls. Nice unit, but it needed further developing.

I just reintroduced myself to the V1 after a 3-4 year break. Instantly I was very annoyed with how chatty it was. That was until I dialed up some settings and introduced Savvy. Now? I think it's as quiet as the Redline was in HIGHWAY mode.

In terms of the appearance? The V1 is MUCH ligther. I don't think it's any thicker, really. It may be wider, but not by much. The V1, as it has been said, has an EXCELLENT mount. The Redline's was terrible. The unit was too heavy and it always bounced arround. It was bothersome to me that I had to pay more money for another bracket that should have been included in the first place. Bad design and marketing.

Everyone has an opinion on this subject that knows anything about RD's. For me? All that I really miss from the Redline is not being able to be detected in Va. The rest? The V1 far exceeds, so far, in my opinion.
V1 overall. Then STi Magnum for Virginia, much better ramp up than the Redline.

How is the STi Magnum on IO shots? I had a bad experience with Bel back in the day that soured my taste for them. It's been a while, perhaps it's time to try them again? If the IO shots aren't the issue/concern they were with the Redline, I might pick one up to try it...

No problems with I/O. I drive Route 70 to and from the Jersey shore. A two lane road with a lot of I/O from moving LEOs coming at you. I get more than enough time to adjust my speed. Not as good protection from behind with the Magnum, but the V1 makes up for that in a tremendous way.

Another thing to mention: When I had my Redline, most alerts felt like close range I/O. No warning, just full alert. Half a minute later you'd finally see the LEO.
The STi Magnum has great ramp up. It gives you a accurate measure of what's in front of you.

The V1 is state of the art inside where it counts bar none. The other pros and cons have already been mentioned. I will just say I have owned a V1 since they first went into production and have had a couple upgrades over the years and have never been disappointed with its performance. Mike hit a home run when he designed this and continues to improve the insides all the time.

Valentine research has one focus, being the best at detecting radar. No frills. The focus isn't on anything else that doesn't contribute to detecting radar such as casing or unnecessary features.

Thumbs up Re: The future of Valentine One? Dismal.

The V1 is fine the way it is.. Stop nit picking over design. You shouldn't be buying one RD over another because one looks better. The V1 is a all around performer... My only suggestion is update the horn.. Possible enlarge future models.. I'd want to see better off-axis and possibly a spectre proof antenna. Besides that, The V1 is nearly perfect.

    I'll tell you my story:

I bought an S4 in 2005 and given my already long file with the LEOs, I needed something. After reading the forums one thing became clear: V1 fanboys were really fecking annoying and the thing does look old. Given the tests of the time the X50 was getting slightly better performance in the areas I cared about so ... I got the X50. It was great! I did a hardwire install and loved the fact that I could quickly detach it from my windshield with an easy press of a button.

Well, right after the warranty ran out .... tah-DAH! error messages. I figured out ways to get it back online but eventually it went off line for good. $70 to fix my 2 year old detector?? sounds like a scam and I told them so. They said it wasn't 8-D anyway, I just couldn't give them more of my money so I went without until 3 weeks ago when I got a ticket. DANG IT!

Well ... same process: read the forums, blah blah blah, and this time decided to go for the V1 + savvy + connection. Took me about 20 min to hard wire (give you just plug in to savvy): just ran the cord under the headliner, down the a-piller, right to the OBD port. Connection needs polishing but I really like it. Also, as a bit of a geek, I LOVE the "platform" feel of the V1.

In conclusion, I couldn't disagree with you more in every way. Great platform, great performance, great accessories. Not sure what there's not to like.

I agree about leasing the others. Some of us are V1 fans. Look at my signature, I have had other RDs but still have the V1.
