    Default New Whistler Models.

    New Whistler Units-
Whistler has released at least two new models- The DE1778 and 1776.

    Features for the 1778:
The Whistler DE-1778 radar detector is a high performance detector with plenty of extra's. This model, with it's sleek, black design and intense, blue text display will look great in any vehicle. The DE-1778 offers real voice alerts, and will detect the new POP mode radar. One unique feature of the 1778 is an "Auto Dim" feature. In Auto Dim mode, the display will automatically adjust the brightness based on the current lighting conditions of your car. The DE-1778 is also compatible with Whistler's new Intelli-Cord power cord.
    Interesting, huh?

A valentine-ish auto-dim and a cord that really resembles the escort smartcord.

The Whistler 1778 is compatible with Whistler's optional Intelli-Cord Power Cable. The Intelli-Cord provides a programmable button on the base of the power cord to which you can assign your choice of two features. You can have the IntelliCord button control any two of the following: Power On/Off, City Modes, Dim/Dark, and Quiet/Auto Quiet. A short button press activates the first feature, a long press activates the second!
I also found an interesting image on Whistler's site, but I can't seem to link it to any particular model-

There's no mention of the new models, the only info that I can find is on another site selling the detectors, so it would be against Roy's policy to post it. My guess would be that it will be tested at SML soon, and if it does well, I would hope Roy would choose to offer it, as it looks like an interesting unit.

Interesting. If I were to envision the marine version of a radar detector I think that image would be it. That would look right at home in my gradfather's SeaRay.

    Default New Whistler Models

We tested these as protypes units in January at SML and made some recommendations.

We don't have them on our site yet, because we cannot get a firm date from Whistler when they will be arriving.

But as soon as we know something for sure we will be selling them

    Default Whistler Unit

from a website I found with details...

    DE1778 WHISTLER LAS/RAD. DET. POP MODE/VOICE ALRT -

    TOTAL BAND PROTECTION
    POP MODE DETECTION
    INTENSE BLUE TEXT DISPLAY
    REAL VOICE ALERTS
    INTELLI-CORD READY
    AUTO DIM
    HIGH-GAIN LENS
    STAY ALERT
    360¼ TOTAL PERIMETER PROTECTION
    PATENTED VG-2 CLOAKING TECHNOLOGY
    3 CITY MODES

Just what IS 360 1/4 protection? Does that put you in a time warp with that extra 1/4 degree??

Here's another photo, this one directly from the whistler site, no info on this one though.

Apparently the model will be 1788 on that one.

I saw the manual posted already on another website. From what I read the unit is not even VG2 immune. It does have a VG2 guard though that gives alert hopefully before the VG2 detects its presence. AFAIK the Spectre sees everything the VG2 does and more.

If I were dishonest, I would have taken you up on the offer and been $5 richer in a month.

Which one is the DE-1778 and the 1776? On Whislter's website they show the two new detector's. One is battery powered (cordless) and the other is for a motercycle.
