I run my pro 78 with pop off. I emailed Roy he told me stalker ruled in texas. Is detection better with pop on? or off? I would think small towns would use pop mode to rely on income for the city.ops:

Radar sensitivity is increased (by approximately 1-2dB) in the PRO-58/73 models when you disabled POP. I PM'd Michael B a week or two ago regarding whether or not this was true of the 78/690. He responded promptly and said that currently there was no sensitivity difference in POP on or off mode, but that he is working on a software update which will increase sensitivity by 1-2dB with POP disabled.
From what I understand, currently, POP speed readings are often not enough to bust you (please correct me if I'm wrong). Most of us have POP disabled since it leaving it on can cause some random POP falses. I would recommend POP off (for fewer falses and higher sensitivity in the near future).
Today I tested the XTR 690 with POP on and off. I used automatic doors as the radar source. The difference in sensativity was not noticable. I've read on some of the other forums people seeing HUGE distances with POP enabled and disabled. With the XTR 690 though I would have to agreee, there isn't a difference. Not sure why this is.
I leave my 690 on Highway, POP on and Filter 2. I have only received one POP alarm which seemed to be false. My 690 is VERY quiet at these settings and I'm super happy.
I was getting so many falses on the George Washington Bridge that the 78 would beep the whole span of the bridge. I turned off POP and set it to City2 mode which eliminates X band and it has improved dramatically. However, I always get a Ka false in the same exact spot everytime I drive over it and it's exactly at the midpoint of the bridge. It alerts at Ka 6 and ramps up within a sec and drops off. I'm always looking around but I can't find the source. I guess that something is built into the bridge?
Played with the Filter, Filter 1 and Filter 2 modes much? If not, try filter 1, then your next trip through try filter 2. Then put your POP on and try it with filter 2. I'm not sure about the GW, good question. Wonder if they use radar on bridges with more than one level..../shrug
PLay with the Filter settings, but you might be seeing an x-band traffic radar put there to monitor traffic.Originally Posted by rks
Strange thing. When I change filters, the RD acts like a totally different radar detector. Not that it's a bad thing, but I'm still trying to get a feel for the unit. Also, someone on the forum mentioned that the higher the filter, the longer it takes to process the signal. Even if it's a millisecond, sometimes I think I need all the stopping time I can get. Call me paranoid.
