Default Pro78 X-band and Laser Encounter

I went down to Cedar Point (Sandusky, OH) today (traveling from metro-Detroit). During both legs of the trip, I encountered a handful of K-band speed signs (basically at every construction zone). The 78 gave me about 3/4 mile detection (numerous hills and a curve) on each and ramped up very gracefully.

I also had my first X-band LEO encounter. Driving down I-280, the 78 alerted to X band at a signal strength of 1-2, fully ramping up in roughly 20 seconds. I was searching all over for the LEO (since there were no shopping plazas nearby) when I finally see him on the opposite side of the concrete barrier going North. I'd put the range from first alert at roughly 3/4 mile (assuming we were both going 70).

On the way back, I was driving 75 in a 65 on the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/90) when all of a sudden I see the brake lights of the rabbit in front of me (~100 ft ahead) light up. I knew that there had to be a cop there since no one else was in front. The 78 immediately alerted to laser at roughly 500ft from the LEO (picking up scatter most likely as the LEO hits my rabbit). A second ater, I get a visual on the LEO parked perpendicular to the freeway at the median (between two ends of a concrete divider) with his window rolled down shooting laser. I don't have any laser countermeasures so if I'm sure that if I had been going any faster at the time, I would have been toast. However, he may not have hit me directly as I was only a second or so behind my rabbit, and the LEO may have not had enough visual contact time (after hitting the guy in front) to hit me as well.

The rest of the trip was rather uneventful except for 2 laser potential falses (couldn't find the source). I behaved and kept my speed within 5mph of the PSL after the laser scare all the way home.

Although I am a little disappointed that I didn't see any Ka, I'm definitely satisfied with the performance of the 78 so far (compared to my old 73).

That's nice range on the X-band, and excellent use of a rabbit in the laser situation.

    Nice saves!

I would use the 15 second rabbit rule. a couple seconds seems too close.

Normally, in instant-on radar situations, I would have kept a larger distance. However, I knew that the Ohio State Patrol in that area loved laser. A larger gap would have given the LEO more time to target me after hitting the rabbit.
