    Default Whistler 1788 Question

I'm in the market for a radar detector and would like to spend around $150.00 for one.

I saw that Whistler has a cordless model (1788) that seems like it would be really convenient.

Does anyone know anything about this model? Is it any good?

I have heard the biggest complaint with cordless detectors is that they will occasionally power themselves down to conserve battery power. Does the 1788 do this? Is there any way to turn this feature off?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Jason

It probably has a power saver function that powers the detector down after 3 idle hours, but it should be possible to turn it off in the menu.

AFAIK Whistler cordless models can still detect POP perfectly, though their range is somewhat less than that of the Pro-73 platform.

Personally, I'd screw cordlessness and just grab an XTR-690 or Pro-78, which will offer you superb performance. I can imagine that Ka sensitivity on the 1788 could be a bit marginal.

I've heard people tell me that the ONLY cordless model they'd ever consider is the Escort Solo

Yeah, it isn't a dildo. Go corded for the best performance.

Ok, I feel like I'm either nerdy or old... what exactly is the meaning of "dildo" when applied to radar detector performance?

Dildos use batteries for convenience, but in the RD world, they're NOT better.
