Default when/why do people buy their first rd?

Got any ideas? Mainly because of a speeding ticket? Other reasons?

Didn't notice this was accidentally posted in the specific whistler forums. Someone kind may want to move it to the general fm.

Of course I could say.."when/why do people buy their first whistler RD.."

Twenty four years ago when I lived in New Orleans I got my first ticket...all I was doing was getting milk and bread on a Sunday morning. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and the LEO just stood in the middle of the road and pointed for me to pull over. He said he clocked me doing 36 mph in a 20 mph zone. That dink gave me a citation for 16 mph over the speed limit. He didn't cut me a break at all. I told myself that will be the last time that will ever happen and I bought a detector. I have never gotten another ticket since.

After getting a ticket in CA to which I did traffic school, and a subsequent ticket to which I had to take a $300 Emergency vehicle course to keep BOTH tickets off my record, and then a THIRD ticket that I fought and got dismissed, I decided it was time to get something that would help prevent the actual occurrence of me getting pulled over in the first place. I didn't know anything about detectors, and continued to receive tickets, most of which I got dismissed. In 2002 Radioshack had to get rid of some Radar Detectors because they were not FCC certified. I got a cheapo 360 degree X/K/KA radar + laser detector windshield mount. I still continued to receive tickets in CA as I sometimes forgot to take the detector with me or turn it on. None of these tickets ever hurt my record as most were dismissed. It wasn't until I moved to Arkansas in 2006 that I became REALLY interested in countermeasures. In Arkansas/Tennessee I received 6 tickets in 6 months. Radar detector was with me and on in these situations, and did not alert until the cop was well within view, though to the RadioShack detector's credit it *did* alert when Radar was actually being used, 3 of the tickets were pace/other violation, 2 were radar (1 of which was not justified as I *WAS* doing the speed limit even before the detector went off, the cops even knew it was b.s. and gave me a city ordinance instead of state basic speed law). In any event, I became interested in a way to scramble radar and laser and stumbled across RMR, after buying this piece of $hit, and researching RMR while it was being shipped, I stumbled on rd.net and radarbusters. I quickly canceled my RMR order, which was ordered through the same guy who runs the TIPMRA site, and to his credit he didn't even charge me a re-stocking fee and let me keep my tipmra access, which is an actually pretty good site for speeding defenses. So even tho he sells snake oil, at least he gives you a half decent chance at winning your ticket . Anyways, that same week I ordered an SRX and haven't had a ticket since.

The first time I got a ticket was when I was actually using a radar detector. Never had one before..

It was a cobra of course.

They didn't have FD then buddy.. Wish they had. Actually the cobra alerted just as the patrol car was rounding a bend. Used an outstandingly excellent Whistler 2se normally that could pick up radar from here to the moon and always gave excellent prior warning. Bought and tried out a cobra on a lark.
