Well my Bel 895 died again yesterday!! This was a new replacement that lasted all of 2 months!!!Originally Posted by jazzspot
This product is a piece of crappola!!! Now I have to send it in to get repaired. The problem, once again, is that the unit doesn't power-on. Just like the first one that died. I never leave it on the dashboard when I park the car, so heat from the dash causing it to die is not the cause.
At this time I feel that the Beltronics products are very, very unreliable products as for as their longevity of use. It worked great while it lasted. I'll be taking it back to Radio Shack where I purchased it and see whether they will send it back for repair or whether I have to do it myself.
Can you folks tell me a reliable/good radar detector to purchase in the $200 range? And thank you for reading my rage!!!

New guy does have a point. It is never good for a RD to be left on while starting your vehicle....esp. if the RD is hardwired to a 12v source that only comes on when your ignition is set to run
Sorry to hear about that but actually a good RD around that price is a Beltronics, but you can also try an Escort 8500 (Original) or if you are lucky an X50 from ebay.Originally Posted by jazzspot
Good luck and hope you are able to get a good working RD
I had a V1 that needed to be returned for repairs within the first year of use. With all things what can go wrong will go wrong. Valentine One does seem to have far less problems then the other radar detector makers.Originally Posted by SportsFan
or the bel rx65 for sure but there both the same detector minus a few features, but performance wise, take the bel, and buy a jammer to really cover you in that crisis.
I know this thread is old. I hope someone is reading this though. Now I'm scared to have my RD plug in when I start the car. I will test and see how much juice is traveling through it while cranking although my question is...
Isn't the fuse suppost to save it or protect it???? Let me know.
Thanks.
