So my hardwire died on me for a second today?

Was in the car ready to head off to work from where I had eaten lunch and threw the X50 up and started the car but head no sound. Grrrrrr. I messed with it for a bit then plugged in the smart cord and it was fine. I then opened up the panel where I have it wired and checked the fuse and wiring and it was fine. I then turned it (the panel) over to mess with the UGDO and it was lighting up so I thought hell with it and as I was throwing the panel back on it started up.

I am lost there. I better make sure all is well. Would hate for something to mess up in there.

Strange. Typically electronics are working or not, ever. The only extra factor that gives the "sometimes" effect is heat, so possibly that?

That or a shaky ground perhaps. I remember my Pontiac was like that, I had to file down a nice ground off the paint and add a washer to make a strong contact.

Check any crimp connections which you used on the hardwire at its power and ground connection points. The crimp is no good (wasn't making a solid electrical connection) if the wire pulls out of the crimp connector when tugging on the wire with 1/4 to 1/2 pound of force.

Thank's guys. Yeah it is not something I would expect to fluctuate back and forth. It either works or it doesn't! I am going to go out and make sure the crimp is nice and solid tomorrow.

I had a few problems when I ran a homemade cord, I really like the factory cord better. I also have all soldered connections now with my setup. I have a few pics of mine in my link. Always a good idea to carry a smartcord with you also, just in case.

Yeah good idea. Lesson learned. Teh Escort box fits nicely under the rear end of the passengers seat. Up front on the floor there is seat stuff in the way but I just turn to the right and slide it under the back portion perfectly. Love it!

Mine did that because of a loose ground. Like RanEnRui said. I had to drill a hole in a metal brace and use a sheet metal screw to get a good ground for mine.

Electrical gremlins are notoriously hard to diagnose.

Combine RER and MEM-TEK's respective advice - check both the ground as well as any of your power taps/crimps/solders/connections.

You'll unfortunately have to trace the entire route.

The ground I got screwed into one of the screws for the moonroof motor so it is the only connection I really trust. Weird I spun it around and it put the panel on then 'bliip, blop, blep, dinggggg, ding, ding, ding, dingg...' lol!

I had a similar problem. Everybody was telling me that my connections were poor and I instisted that all the connections were solid. As I stated on my thread...I was wrong again. Even though my ground tested perfect it turned out to be an inconsistant ground, who woulda thunk
