    Default is that normal?

    i am a new rd user, just got the solo s2. recently i went up a ramp and my solo was silent. when i got to the top, solo went off all the way at the same time i saw one of those "your speed is..." highway signs about 60 yards away. is solo working right?

    yes operating within noral parameters, the ramp obstructed the signal, thats why the Solo didnt alert until you hit the top, same would go for any other detector

    The higher end detectors that are not cordless can "see" over hills and ramps and giving you some warning before. Detectors such as the V1, Escort 8500, Bel RX65, Escort X50, Bel 995 ect will provide some warning in that situation.

    That is true I got a really good warning on Ka when the cop was on the other side of the hill, about 1/2 a mile, and the X50 was showing almost full alert, being instant on.

    Also cordless RDs are not working 100% of the time because they have to save batteries so they might not help you out against instant on or POP.

    The problem with the solo is that when the battery level is down, it's sensitivity is decreased. You have not mention if the alert was K or Ka band. Ka band specially the newer ones are hard to pick up when you are out of the line of sight specially in open spaces where you don't get reflected radar signals.
