    Default 9500i Auto Mode

    Hi guys,

I've read here that 15mph is the threshold at which the 9500i's sensitivity goes from city to highway when you have it set to "Auto".

Has that been confirmed? So far I'm leaving it in auto mode based on that assumption. I figure If I'm going under 15mph that means I'm driving in a parking lot... where I'm not too worried. So long as it goes to full sensitivity at over 15mph I'm happy.

I did quite a few tests and Auto mode does definitely do an enhanced City mode filtering at 15mph and less (do to GPS lag it could be 20mph). Supposedly from 15-20mph and above it still filters slightly to 45mph or so (like Auto mode in the X50's), however it seems to me from my testing there is almost no filtering at all passes 15-20mph.

    Cool, that would be perfect.

Filtering at 35-45 would not be so good for me though. I'll have to play with both. But in my area there are just so damned many door openers, when I'm in town I rarely can or do speed because in the suburbs I go through cops see drivers as revenue sources. As soon as I'm out of the town or on the highway though all bets are off

Even without TrueLock the 9500I has some pretty useful and impressive features.
Too bad we get all wound up in the TrueLock + Mark location debate so much.

I tested a K band sign at 30 + 40 + 65 and found no real difference in detection distance, obviously KA is always at its peak performance.

If you can try doing some of your own testing and let me know.

Also, you should know that this feature is pretty smart. If you're sitting at a stoplight and a LEO comes rolling up with C/O K band, your 9500i will alert you. So, it doesn't just blindly shut off the K and X bands, just because the vehicle is below 15mph. It's still monitoring for potential problems, it's just not telling the user anything it deems as unimportant. The 9500i will still alert to all Ka band and laser alerts while stopped.

Well, I gotta say it impressed me so far. I was driving down a semi-rural street the other day. At one intersection I generally always mute my V1 because of the CVS. On the 9500i I locked this CVS out. Yet I still picked up KA band in this intersection as a cop went by the other day.

Anyway, I'm driving down the road well out of range of the CVS, and all of a sudden I get a strong K band. At first I don't react because I'm not really speeding and also I'm just kindof "desensitized" The detector has not made a peep yet all day but I'm so used to hearing beeps while I drive. It was a k band cop coming at me from just over 1 mile away over a small hill. Not bad at all!

Generally when I know I'm "speeding" is when I pay very close attention to the RD. However its good to know that this can also get my attention when I'm kindof zoned out.

I'm debating turning the voice alert on again just so it annoys me back to paying attention when it does pick something up.

    Good to here.

Some people don’t like the voice alert, but once you have it programmed the way you want its so quiet it can actually be useful, especially in Expert mode.
