Default 9500ix questions from a noob.

I just got a 9500ix is there anything wrong with just taking a phone line and wireing it up above my mirror? Im asking a little late since i've already done it lol. I did it in 5mins just for now i ran the wire to the back of my cig lighter until i can find a switched source. The detector reads 14 volts and 14.5 when its pluged in useing the smart cord. I guess some voltage is lost in the phone cable. This is only a temp thing im going to buy the escort smart direct connect cable when i find who has it cheapest.

and what is pop mode and why is pop and ku disabled by default?

It sounds like you did fine and I don't know why you'd need an Escort cord. I'd just buy an add-a-fuse and wire it to the better power source.

Pop mode only exists on a very small percentage of radar guns in the US and is only used on an even smaller percentage of those guns and is not allowed for writing citations per the user manual. In the meantime, cheap, leaky RDs cause many false pop alerts on the 9500ix, so it's better left disabled. There are no Ku band guns sold to or used by law enforcement in the US.

You don't really need the smart cord, but it does have the mute button so you don't have to reach up to the RD to mute it.
