    Default X50 Black

Does anyone have this detector? Looking to upgrade from my original 8500. Can't seem to find much info on this unit.

Yes a few of us do. I had a silver that I sold and got a black.
Very good range. Not a Redline/Magnum but great for the price. Most bang for the buck out there.

Yes and it is worth buying. The S7 platform of the early 8500s was and still is very good. When the platform switched to the M4 is was a downgrade. The X50 black has the M4 platform but with an upgrade and is very similar, almost identical to the S7 both of which are much better.

Several of us have the black and it's the best bang for the buck out there other than a refeb.

    The x50 is pretty amazing.
Just try to mount it high. I've gotten way more detection on Ka while mounting it high than mounting it low.

I've had the x50 black for a month and mounted it low the whole time. But once I direct wired it to my car, I mounted it high. In one week, I got more detection than in that one month.

I have the 8500 X50 that I purchased in 2007. Is the 8500 X50 black worth the purchase as an upgrade over this one?

Also it is randomly locking on X band and will not stop until I unplug it so I am going to have to send it back to escort to get it fixed if I keep it.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Alot of experienced users have been pleasantly surprised by the performance of the X50 Black. The range and Ka ramp up seems to be a nice improvement over the previous X50 M4 versions sold back in 2007 when you bought yours. The Black has a nice radar condensor lens not available on previous 8500 models.

Seems like instead of paying $60 bucks to repair yours, you can flip that into an $80 trade in credit and use it towards the purchase of the Black. For just $40 more you could add EscortLive and have some fun sharing alerts with the EL community........this also adds alot of the GPS functions of the $500 9500ix and gives you a magnificent display on your smartphone like the Passport iQ.

Geez. I think I just talked myself into buying one of these! Almost........the new SmartRadar has me excited.

The X50 black has had nice laser detection too. I use it in an F150 during work and log a lot of miles. I mount it half way between the dash and mirror. All the encounters,6 of them, have been close range with me being the target or a vehicle out in front of me being hit first and it hasn't missed a shot yet that I know of. With that being said,I haven't seen a leo aiming in my direction and not get an alert. I have had my Redline miss laser detections in similar scenarios. I won't say that the Black is excellent or great against laser without testing but I can honestly say that I have been impressed.
