    Default upstate NY questions

I live in Rochester NY & was wondering what systems are in use in my area??

Can I safely change any of the programming in my brand new Valentine 1??

I don't really know the area but this info is from this sticky - http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...?p=56300#56300

    Monroe County:
    County Sheriff - K, Ka
    Greece - Ka
    Brighton - Ka
    Webster - Ka

I'd say your best bet is to drive around in A mode for a little while and get an idea of how your detector responds to each alert. Once you've driven for a while and can confirm the above info that X might not be used, you can turn X off, but ONLY after double and triple confirming that it's not used in your area. And if you ever do drive anywhere in NJ or Ohio, don't forget to turn X back on if you had it off. If you've also found after driving for about a month in A mode that K isn't a real threat, you can probably set the K automute on and run little l - it seems like Ka is your biggest threat, at least according to the sticky. Hopefully those that live near you can chime in and give you more help.

when I travel through upstate NY, which is a couple times a month I always get hit with both instant on and constant on Ka and laser. I think you can safely turn off X band because it is not used in NY except for Suffolk leos which is in southern NY

Do you know that for sure??

Mine would be a lot quieter with X turned off.

If you turn it off, is it always off or does it still work in A mode??

My mistake! Suffern*** county uses X, or atleast thats what people say. That is right on the NJ/NY border though so I wouldnt worry about it. If I were you i would turn X off and yes it remains off in A mode

I'm in Penfield. Everything I've read, here and elsewhere, says that X is not used up here any longer. I've only ever detected K, KA, and Laser and my friends have the same experience. I turned X off on my V1.

So am I (I live near route 250 & Whalen Road)

I turned X back on although it is probably safe to leave it off.

I have POP off & K band automute set & it is not very chatty at all. I also have a micro-switch on my turn signal stalk to mute it with a quick flick without removing my hands from the wheel.

Small world department, John. I'm about a mile from you behind St. Joseph's church.

I need to learn more about programming my V1, like K band automute. I've just had it for about a week though -- more reading and testing to do. The signal mounted micro-switch is a great idea!

Yea, I must have been near your house today. I have a 7 year old daughter who goes to Cobbles school & I picked her up there today.

If you need help with that programming, give me a call. I know the programming inside out in the V1.

    My cell # is (585) 747-7900

I may just take you up on that. Thanks!

So I've seen my share of K and, especially, Ka coming from the Monroe County Sheriffs. Haven't had a chance to hit I90 yet. Do you come across much Laser out there? If so, how does the V1 do with advance notice on it around here? Do you change programming modes much for around town and expressway driving?
