    Default What is this?

My dad has an ancient RD and I was wondering if anyone had any information about it. It's approx 20 years Old I believe and I'm assuming its made by escort. I'm not sure why he still uses it, but he speeds and hasn't had a speeding ticket since I was born, some 20 years ago. Here are some pics, Thanks.

1st generation Passport from Escort. In it's day, it was amazing. It picks up X & K band only, so it most likely would be useless today.

I have two of the exact same, actually my dads units.

They are the original Escort Passport... I did some testing with them awhile back.

Here's a question... Why the heck would the design the detector to run on 9V power (unless it was planned to be cordless?)

Someone who would know once told me the exact reason, which unfortunately I don't remember for certain ops:

But I -think- it had something to do with heat. Having the regulated power supply outside of the detector (in the cord) prevented some heat-related problems in the detector, or something like that...
