Default So Why Do You Speed?

Is it because you have to get somewhere? Is it because you're an ex-F1 driver? Do you enjoy the game of cat and mouse? Or is it something else?

For me it's because I have to get somewhere; it's easier to primarily look ahead and not have to worry about someone coming up on you vs you on them; because the speed I'm comfortable at is above the posted limit; and because the cat and mouse game keeps me much more alert to my driving.

I allegedly speed because I can. My therapist says I have a need to push the thrill envelope. What does she know, it's fun, that's why I do it.

I've actually found that if I have no where to go, I drive at the limit or below.

About the only time I really speed is when I am on a long trip on the highway and want to get it over with. On the frequent trips from Texas to Floridia and back, I probably average 20 over PSL or better. But in the city, in day to day driving, or even on shorter highway trips, I just find the right lane, kick in the cruise control, and relax. I have no intrinsic need for speed. After over three decades of driving emergency vehicles, it does nothing for me. I just have a need to get where I am going before I fall asleep.

I like driving, and I like driving fast even more.
Still on my learner's permit (flame suit at the ready), so its not like I'm speeding that much, but still.

I think the limits are on average 10-15 mph slow for the roads. Especially with the handling of todays cars. I go what I feel is a reasonable speed for conditions.
Unless I really need to get somewhere. Then I allegedly haul ass!

On the highways, I would tend to agree. But unfortunately, like everything else in life, you have to dumb it down to the lowest common denominator. Consequently, the traffic engineers have to take them into consideration, and speeds are set not at the maximum safe speed, but at the maximum safe speed for the $hitty drivers. As always, the rest of us suffer because of a few dim bulbs. Can't really blame the cops for that. Blame the $hitty drivers.

And blame the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the poor driving training and testing. Geez, with all the technology available, there should be a driving simulation test you have to pass before you even get on the road. And you could throw people into much more dangerous and real-life scenarios in a simulator and train them to be much more alert and prepared.

I actually wrote a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about this. They were bragging about how airbags have saved so many lives. Well, thousands more die each year because they were never taught the skills that could have prevented an accident in the first place and saved their life. And these people were given a license and told that they were fine to drive. It's just not right.

^^ Is your flame-suit on? Good...

I received 3 speeding tickets in the span of 18 mos. when I was somewhere around your age, lucky to not lose my license or worse. Pure stupidity on my part... I just didn't know any better.
