All of the "new" 8500 series detectors will have the M4. They don't make the S7 any longer. They are both good but some prefer the S7 (as you can see). That makes the referb the deal of the century.
The M4 does not get its due credit on these forums! Here is from what I have gathered:
M4 pros:
-Quieter on K band due to intentionally, but slightly reduced off axis view.
-Better Ka and K band range than the S7, especially on axis.
-Cheaper to produce and repair
-Very reliable
-TSR filter
M4 cons:
-Less reactive to I/O Ka shots.
-Less off axis Ka capability
S7 pros:
-Great off axis Ka detection
-More reactive to I/O Ka shots than M4, esp. with RX65 S7 in USA mode
S7 cons:
-More falses on K
-No TSR
-Less on axis range
-More prone to service required message (can be a good thing, also occurs because they are older units anyway)
This is great, thanks.
I just bought a red M4 8500 X50. I'm bummed because last night, Best Buy listed it as $225, but in store today they charged me $300 (and I had no proof of the price so they couldn't honor it). They also failed to mention the free mount and hardwire kit that I was supposed to get. I'll likely be returning this after my trip and either re-buying it with the free kit and any price-matches I find in the next month, or buying a refurbished X50 (depending on my experiences over the next few weeks).
Where can refurbished Belscorts be purchased?
