E indicates some kind of internal problem with the unit. I had an old V1 years ago that would E out on power-up due to a faulty memory chip, which got fried after I jump-started my car. Perhaps something is reacting to the heat, causing the error on yours.

The 3.851 has a digital temperature compensation device. Older versions had an analog one. Whether this is the cause of the "E" or not I can't say, as it's never happened to me.

I'd call VR and speak with a tech. They might be able to get to the bottom of it, or swap out the V1 if it's defective.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Maybe this "E" is going to be the "glitch" in this version?(new digital temp. device)
