Default My patience finally pay off!

Having heard how awesome the V3.813, I told myself I had to find myself one of these.

After buying and selling 7-8(V1.8) V1s on EBay, the closest I came across was a V3.812. Oh well, it was fun looking though.

Last Thursday while browsing on EBay, I came across a guy selling a V1.8 with a buy it now price of $265 + $10 shipping. I thought what the heck, even if I resell this I probably will still make some money off it. Without a second thought, I bought and paid for the V1.

When the mail man came knocking on my door, I knew my V1 is finally here. Signed for the package and open up the box. Yep, it is the V1 I bought on EBay, other than the scratches on the lense, everything looks great!

I plug the V1 into my car and power on the V1 and as the number flashes, 3_8_1_3!

Now, the only thing I need to do is sending this V1 in for a tuneup(not picking up anything except laser) and have them change the lense and afterwhich I can finally try out my 3.813 and see if it is better than my 3.863.

So my saga in search of one of the most sought after V1 came to an end. Now, my next V1 is a V3.826.

Thinking about buying a V1 - is there any test data on the various versions - why would one want a prior version? Isn't every version released better than the last . . .

    Thanks!

Do a search in the V1 forum about "3.813". and check out the sticky about the versions. Some people prefer the older one because it does not have POP and think it has better detection on some bands / less falsing. There have also been some complaints about the "J" Junk filtering in the new software not working very well, ie it called some real signals false. Supposedly the latest release has fixed this. I don't think there is an option to turn the Junk filter off either so the user can decide.

If I am wrong on any of these other posters will correct me

    nope. right on.

I'm not sure if the "J" feature can ever be 100% accurate with the rate cobra & now Q3 pump out new products. V1 has a tough road, but I do admire them for trying to fix it.

I like the 3.813 for this very reason. I don't have to worry about it "Jing" out anything. I'd rather have a Ka alert and I've already learned what a typical Cobra situation looks like so I'll just go hunt um down.

As per performance it will probably just depend on manufacturing difference. However mine has not been beaten yet, and i've ran it against a 3.826 & 3.858.

Finally, I believe these older units have better default filtering. I can't prove it but it's just one of those observations that make you go hmmm.

Just get a new 863 if your not an enthusiast. If you get excited by trying different detectors and different versions than go for it.

I'm not seeing anything that makes me go "wow" in comparing my my 812 and my 861.

They both work very well. I think the real key, in a post 813 version, is to just say no to POP and turn it off.

Staton, you want to compare my 3.863 and 3.813 with your V3.863? I am interested to see how mine stacks up to yours. I just send my 3.813 via next day to VR to have a tune up and have them change out the lense on my V1. If I am lucky, I might have my V1 back by Friday.
