Default Can you tell the version number from the serial number?

Without having the unit in front of you to find the version number, can you get it by just looking at the serial number?

You would think there would be some sort of pattern.

As popular as the 3.813's have become I've decided to never give the serial number out. I could only imagine some lunatic calling V1 giving my serial number and saying it's stolen. I send it in for a tune up and never get it back.

If you registered it under your name I doubt that would be a problem. The lunatic has plenty of serial numbers to choose from, most people post it on ebay and craigslist.

The last 3 digits of the serial number indicate the year of production.

    -399 MFG 1992 to 1996
    400 to 439 MFG 1997 to 1998
    440 to 599 MFG 1998 to 2001
    600 and up MFG 2001 to 2005

    Thank you V1Dave

Seems to go in order. Is it safe to say that 650 is newer than 600? And if so, you should be able to determine the software version from the serial (if we can build up a large enough database).

Isn't it a "requirement" to disclose the serial # if you want to sell your V1 on eBay?
