From my experience, the impact of the "J" problem is exaggerated (ver 3.825). I have had several real Ka band alerts, none of which were switched to "J". I have had weak Ka alerts changed to J, but have not been able to see a LEO radar in the area either. Once I saw another car with a detector in the windshield.

And laser falses that occur behind a neon-stoplight vehicle are kinda obvious, don't you think? There may be a tradeoff here for the increased sensitivity.

There was a wreck on the freeway and the damaged cars were off to the side of the highway along with three Utah State Highway Patrol cars. One of the cars must have left his gear running because I got the usual Ka band warning a mile or so before I came upon them. As I got near the scene where the cars were parked I also got a LIDAR detection. I couldn't tell if there was anybody in the patrol cars at the time, due to having to watch traffic. As you'd imagine traffic was flowing at well below posted speed limits due to the wreck, so I doubt one of the troopers would have been actively lasing cars as they went past.

This would seem to me to indicate that I did pick up scattered LIDAR energy and my V1 reported it.

More likely the V1 falsed laser from the strobes on the emergency vehicles. It's unlikely that a LEO would be lasering traffic in those conditions, especially when obviously there was no speeding going on. The Ka alert was no doubt because one or more of the cruisers had their radar on.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

My concern is falses from sunrise/sunset.

    Why I switched from the X50 to a V1?

It's just another toy; I wanted the biggest baddest and most expensive one! Kidding!

Every time the X50 beeped I always found myself looking around, especially at night

After I bought the V1, I found the arrows really helped me decide whether I passed the source so I can regain speed again...

...even if it was a false X or K, I know that I passed it already.

Now with Ka I always slow down no matter what

I know people say that even without the arrows you will know you passed the source because you will gain signal then gradually die down... I have no explanation for this but I feel better when I know exactly where the source is.

How to stop "J'unk issue.... IGNORE IT! Slow down on any Ka alert.

What I like about the V1 besides the arrows?
-the "WOW" factor from my passengers (it seems big and so military)
-the cord... I like how the phone cord has a sleeve so it doesn’t break off like my X50
-the whole package (it was complete: hardwire, extra suction cups, visor mount)
    -mount is great, very solid
-bogey count is not limited like the X50(2Ka 2K 4X)

What I miss on the X50?
    -Expert Mode
    -Voltage
-Nice animation (looks like night rider)
    -Mute function of course
    -Dimmer
    -Easy programming
    -sleekness

So they don't sometimes leave the LIDAR running the same way they leave the RADAR running?

LIDAR is point and shoot. I don't think it has a always on setting.
