Why the V1?
I have a question, why did everyone buy their V1 instead of a Bel or Escort?
I was reading in a thread that the V1 lacks several options like a dim display, voice alert and automute. Isn't $400 a lot for a detector that has so few of options? Yes the arrows would be nice and the number of signals but I have the with Tech Mode on my Bel.
I was seriously thinking of replace my Bel 985 with a V1 but with the lack of options it doesn't sound like it's worth $400.
Any opinions?

Lack of dim display? The V1 automatically dims according to ambient lighting. If you want the display completely dark, yeah, you have to buy the display re-locator, which really isn't bad.
Who needs voice alert? I turned that feature off in my Cobra when I had that.
Rob is right, the arrows are a key selling point. And although radar detection and sensitivity is similar among the top three (or two depending on how you look at it) detector makers, the V1 boasts superior laser sensitivity that surpasses anything out there. I think it's a safe assumption to make that you'd be set with a V1 and Veil...no jammer needed.
A lot of it though is personal taste. If you don't think the V1's for you, that's still ok. That's the beauty of a competing market. Different features appeal to different consumers.
Does the laser detection really make that big of a difference? I've got Veil and Laser Sheild on my car so I'm not sure if I would not need a V1.
Does the V1 pick up laser from another car better than Belscort? The way I understand it is if you don't have any countermeasures and your hit by laser your pretty much screwed.

With the V1 and it's superior laser detection, you stand a much better chance of being able to pick up infrared scatter from a "rabbit" in front of you if mounted properly. Radar detection is similar to the other 2 "best" detectors.Originally Posted by Patuba
If you've already got some laser counter-measures, you're right. A V1 may not be for you. It sounds like you got a pretty good set-up as it is.
Right now a V1 would just an impulse buy. I don't really need it and at $400 that's a real pricey impulse buy.
Yes, it would be cool to have better laser detection and arrows but I think I'll have to fight the urge.
Add it to your Christmas list... maybe someone loves you enough to get it for you :wink: If you don't like it, there's always ebay and you'll get probably well over the $400 retail price tag.
The only way that VEIL and laser shield will do anything for you is if you know that you're being targeted, so that you can slow down before a reading is obtained. With a V1, you can pretty much be sur that it will alert you 100% of the time your vehicle is being targeted. With other detectors, that isn't the case.
And yes, it has a better chance of detecting laser targeting another vehicle too...

Hell man, if you have 400 laying around save up another 100(less beer this week?) and invest in a laser jammer from Roy!
