    Default V1 over 9500ix...

So I finally got the cash to cough up for the v1. First impression... Damn. I ordered it at 4 on monday night. Had the ups guy at my door, box in hand, at 9 the following morning. Props to Mike Valentine. =)

Opened the box, again, damn.... No annoying bullet proof case like my escort detectors. Pretty excited. The cool thing I found is that it runs fine off the power supply my Zr4 puts out for my 9500ix, so I have no need to run additional wires.

Used it, and after a few hours of using it, I'm ready to ditch my ix. I love that the ramp up doesn't suck. Haven't see too much of a range difference with it yet, but having QT detection is a dealbreaker in itself. Ill actually be selling my 9500ix soon, so keep heads up. Anyways...

    Questions are:

    1. Can someone explain the "l" (small l) and "L" modes to me? I've read online about them, but i seem to get people comparing them to highway and city. Which should I be keeping on? I live in a subburb or chicaho, but never really travel to the chi.

    2. When going thru the tolls, I get a laser alert. I know this is suppose to happen. Question is, my ix and Zr4 never pick up a toll way laser, but my v1 does.... What gvies.

    3. What is the proper place to mount the v1? I had my ix in the center of the windshield right above the RVM. Should I keep my v1 there, or put it in the dead center of the windshield so it gets better use of the rear antenna?

Thanks for all your help. And thanks for pulling me away from my escort. I like the v1 more and more every day!

The problem with using the Escort wire is than the mute button will not work on the V1 which also controls what modes you are in.

Little L lets you SEE all alerts, not necessarily HEAR them depending on where you put the muted control lever and depending on your K band automute settings; it lets you HEAR them as they meet/exceed your settings or the detector deems it's necessary to tell you what's going on.

Big L doesn't SHOW you anything until the settings are met or again the detector deems necessary to let you know what's going on.

    2. When going thru the tolls, I get a laser alert. I know this is suppose to happen. Question is, my ix and Zr4 never pick up a toll way laser, but my v1 does.... What gvies.

V1 kicks ass on detecting laser. Period.

Up high as center as you can get. Just make sure the rear antenna can see out the back.

Thanks for all your help. And thanks for pulling me away from my escort. I like the v1 more and more every day!

Cips hit the nail on the head in regards to the V1 using the escort wire.

The problem with using the Escort wire is than the mute button will not work on the V1 which also controls what modes you are in.
As long as you are using that wire, you will be unable to mute or change the mode you are in.

Also, with respect to your question of where to mount, attempt to mount that baby as high as you can. Keep that detector our of site of others.

I consider myself an honest person, but when I see a v1 in someones window- I happen to wonder if their car is locked

Thanks for the quick reply. I will more than likely be getting a conieled display and a few more accessories. So what your saying is keep it on small L so ill see the warnings, but not hear them. I like that idea.

How exactly do you change k band settings? And what would you change them to?? Sorry for all the questions... The manual isn't exactly very detailed and I'm used to the escort programming.

What other accessories should I get for my v1? I'm thinking about the concieled display as I said... Do I need anything else?

Look into Languy99's Color CD. It really helps with learning the tones and is (in my opinion) essential at night.

There's a sticky at the top of the V1 section about K band automuting. Depending on how strickly it's used and speed is enforced in your area is really how it's set up. Personally, I have it set up very aggressive. You may want to experiment and see what's right for you. And if X band isn't used in your area you can turn it off to cut down on some falses. To fnd out what's used in your area, there's a sticky. I'll get links for you.

I would be worried about the ZR4 connected to the V1. What "signals" is the v1 sending to the ZR4 and how will the ZR4 respond?

(That cable is used to control the ZR4 when used with a belscort detector.)
