    Default $150 V1.....Time to retire Escort 7500....:(

My questions about the V1 are in bold...you can skip to those if you dont want to read my story [replacer_img]

So On saturday I went to a local bmw meet and had lunch a friend of mine that use to go on drives with us and has a e46 M3 just returned from his Winning championship race down in Vegas. He drives F1 style cars and won the last race of the season so we all got together and celebrated.

While me and him were talking I asked if he was still getting a Escort 9500 with GPS because I told him couple years ago I wanted his V1 when he did. He said he cant drive stupid anymore because one wreckless ticket and his racing License is taken away for ever.

So he said he would sell me it. So as of right now I owe him $150 bucks for his complete V1 set up which is now wire up were my escort use to be.

I see why people say these are one of the greatest radar detectors but I'd like to say that in the 3 years I've ran my 7500 with my bmw group (who all have V1s) I've never missed a lick. Its hit ever LEO and before someone would get on the radios and yell "cop".

Now Its hardwired where the previous owner of my girlfriends 04 bmw 330 had his V1 in it and even though she doesnt speed she likes the heads up.

But yeah Just had to share that I picked up a V1 for 150 and im stoked. Now just gotta get use to the settings. One thing I liked about my escort is the big K,KA,X that would show up. With my V1 at night its hard to see whether its a KA or K and what not.

I dont know if theres any way of changing it but back in the day before I REALLY knew what a V1 was I swore I saw a friends say K on it instead of the numbers? Could be wrong but just wanted to see if there was anything else.

Also I'm looking into a Concealed display because, Unless there is a another way, I would like to relocate the mute button by my shifter. I read the stickies and saw someone talking about it but it was really confusing.

All the concealed display does is move the display to somewhere easier to see correct? In doing so this Disables the V1s display on the main unit correct?

    Thank you for the help.

What version is it? I'd probably send it in for a tune-up

I know I still have to check all that...should actually check it now. I know i should send it in but how much are they and whats the big thing about sending them in? I know they upgrade them but does the firmware upgrade really make that much of a difference?

This is all new to me so i'm trying to learn.

I know how to check it you get a serial off of it then go to Valentines website and they'll tell you. I can do it but it being 4am and cold as fudge I'll wait till tomorrow. Lol .

Besides upgrade the firmware what else do they do?

Also read the stickies and read the V1s owner manual. Seams like the smart setting for it to be on is the Litle "L" But the stickies only mentioned A and Big L Can you let me know what you run yours on?

    Sounds like a good deal.
Might want to print out a copy of the programming in your car to start out. I keep a link on my phone for quick reference. What does LEO use in your area and how do you want it programmed to do.

um, no. That only tells you the hardware version, not the firmware version. There is a difference.
Follow Jake's youtube vid to get the firmware version.
Current hardware version is 1.8. But that encompases a lot of different firmware versions.

They will go through and test every electronic component to make sure the detector is in "tune." Over time, with use and heat exposure, electronic components will fall out of tune and need to be replaced. The newer units have calibration logic built in that adjust for this, but older units need to be checked a little more often.

"Little L" in the city and "A" on the highway.

The only button on the concealed display is a mute button. You can get a stand-alone mute button that plugs in where the concealed display would. Just search eBay for V1 mute button. They come in flat or round configurations. Flat is best if you don't want to drill a hole in your car.

You can also use a standard phone cord splitter if you want both the concealed display and an additional mute button.

Yes, the main V1 display is disabled when a concealed display is used.
