    Default POP Usage

I have read the threads concerning POP.... unfortunately FL uses POP (they apparently recently added the guns to their arsenal)...

my question is about the band used itself... is POP its own frequency or does it operate on a band such as Ka?

The reason I ask ... looking at the RDRT pop and ka guard off seems to increase v1 range.. if this is the case and pop is in ka band then shouldn't I have a better chance to see its usage sooner if pop (and ka guard) is off?

I don't want to respond to this in full, but a quick glance:

POP is used on (some) K-band and on 33.8Ghz Ka-band units (I think that is the MPH frequency).

So POP is on THE SAME bands as regular K/Ka... all it is, is an extremely short burst of radar (either 67ms or 16ms)... which is miniscule. Essentially what POP-on does is ensure that these two frequency's (bands or bands segments) are being looked at, at LEAST that often... many say to the detriment of other portions of the Ka-frequency... as it has to waste processing/sweeping time and power looking for 67/16ms hits of radar there.

By turning it off, you allow the V1 essentially to scan 'freely' without the need for it to check for 16ms radar hits... BUT it will not be looking for 16/67ms hits... So even though "all around" the V1 is more sensitive... by turning OFF POP it cannot be more sensitive to POP because it isn't looking for it.

PS: I highly doubt POP is being used on a regular basis, but I may very well be wrong... I'd run a V1 with POP off there, that is for sure...

Thanks... but why would you turn it off if it is known to be in use here?

Also.. to be clear... with pop off... can the v1 pick up this short burst at all?

The general consenus on the forum is that just because a LEO can use pop doesnt mean that they do.

Nine_c1 made a good summation on how Belscort and VR RD scan. Allot depends on what frequencies are in your area.

Florida have had MPH guns for some time now, they do not use POP and in fact the cops I've asked about it didn't even know what that option was for. Turn it off, it'll increase QT performance - and FHP uses that all the time

I would run POP mode on, if I knew they were using it in FL.

Florida is a pretty gung-ho law enforcement state in terms of technology and tactics.
If they have some new tool in their arsenal, rest assured they will use it.

We've already seen posts here about a cop on alligator alley using Ka, possibly quick trigger, in such a manner that it didnt alert one of our unlucky members using a 9500?

In my experience, I rode in a car with a laser jammer and got hit from FHP with laser. It jammed it. Instantly, the cops lit us up with Ka band radar (not jammable) almost as quick as the jammer went off.

Those florida cops are crazy man ! (and they do a good job)....

POP alone can not be used as a justification to issue a ticket plus what what I have read, and please correct me, using POP increases false alerts on KA band. I have POP off on both my V1 and my GX65.
