Mine sits on my motorcycle half the day. I didn't ride for 2 weeks when twmps were in the upper 90's here. It's been rained on a few times that I didn't cover it. I just let the water roll out the R-11 jack and plug it in a few days later. Works great!
1. Take it down when parked. Keeps it away from the heat and from the view of thieves.
2. When temps get into the 100s, point an air vent at it to cool it down.
I take mine down during the day and set in a camera bag beside drivers seat at 6:00 am. It is very warm when I get back in my car at 8:00pm. So I would suggest taking it down, that's if you want it to keep preforming the way it's supposed to. IMO, BTW it's been in the 100s and above here in the Dallas area for awhile now.
Camera case it, don't leave it in the sun, and don't leave it in a hot car for extended periods if you don't have to. Heat WILL shorten the life of ALL electronics. I've always taken my RDs inside on hot days like if I am at my office for 8 hours during the summer (or winter)
Mine is pretty hot even not under the sun....I don't know if this is normal...
If it is working under the sun, it is hot like scalding my hand.....
It was reported on national news that OK set the record in July for the hottest month on record for any state which reminds me to ask where did I get the idea that 3.872 and later have better heat tolerance than my 3.819?
Mine fried a few years ago due to the heat and I sent it in for a free fix. But man, it does get hot, grabbed it the other day and almost burnt my hand. I saw some where someone polished the black off to a smooth silver magnesium, that'd be cool to get them in chrome - or white ... LOL in the sun w/a black box ...
I think the temp thing is something that escort users worry about.
