Default weak Ka, then strong afterwards

I got hit with Ka today on the way to work with about a 2 or 3 bar level, I went around a sharp curve and there he was coming around the curve. I had little time to slow down. It didn't really matter, he was on the other side with a 20ft wide and hilly median between us. However, when I passed him, Ka went nuts. Full blast!

Whatcha think? I think he was running rear radar.

I would say he was aiming at you since you were coming around a sharp curve and the LEO was running constant KA band. KA is a B!tch to pick up around sharp corners anyway

Yeah, he very possibly could have been running rear radar....if you were already past him when it went to full. But since you were getting a signal BEFORE you passed him, it could also have just possibly been the angle (since you got a signal BEFORE passing him). Therefore, it may have just went to FULL as you were passing him.....as your paths crossed and you were facing straight toward each other just as you passed. Since I'm unsure of the angle, I'm just guessing though.....

I had a somewhat similar and interesting experience today with Ka, though, as well.

I was driving the speed limit down a highway that runs through the city in a crowded area. I was the lead car, having just accelerated after leaving a red light.....when all of a sudden, I get what "APPEARS" to be an "Instant On" hit with Ka. The thing is, it SOUNDS like a full alert....coming on very strong and from out of the blue....but my V995 is only alerting at 3/6 to 4/6 strength. I look at my speedometer, look to see the cop approaching from the opposite direction a 100-150 feet or so ahead....then back to my detector. The time from when I first looked to the second time I looked at the strength was only a second/ second and a half tops.....but when I looked the second time, the alert strength was at FULL (6/6) alert! Yet I know it was an instant-on! Kinda odd, in a way......

Yeah, Ka is a hard one to detect around corners. I still think that he was running rear though. But it is hard to tell because the terrian was so bad. We had trees, hills, and curves between us. The worst case scenario for RDs to pick up radar.

Yeah my V1 doesn't perform too well in situations like this either. 1 KA band. 2 Sharp turn. 3 Objects in between you and the source. These all mix to make it extremely difficult to detect this LEO sitting waiting for you

He could have been using his front antenna agains the other side of the road since you said the signal got a lot stronger after you passed.

Ok, I might not have explained the scenario well enough.

I was going West bound, he was travelling East bound. There was a large and somewhat sharp curve between us along with small hills and trees in between us (in the median).

I got a weak Ka alert, saw him, passed him and then a full alert

OIC. Well I would say that his radar gun was pointed to the rear. Esp. if your RD went to full alert after you passed him. I thought he was stationary
