    Default Possible faulty detector?

    Hello all,

I have learned a lot about radar detectors by using this site, but I ran into a problem.

I had my RX-65 (Version 2.9) for about 2 months now, but mainly I have been just using it for the last 2 weeks and I have encountered inconsistencies with the detector. I know where the usual "false spots" occur and at what distances they occur at a given speed. Sometimes my detector in Autoscan detects a K band door sensor better, as in greater distance, when going the same speed compared to Highway mode. In highway mode, the detector sometimes doesn’t even pick up the usual "false spot." I have experimented with the detector and it seems like I get the best range in Autoscan, which isn’t that great. I have also tested the detector on the "your speed is signs", and get inconsistencies again.

I had an encounter with the PSP using a constant on K band gun, at the side of the road, behind some trees, and I only had about .25 miles warning in highway mode. The cop was at the bottom of a small hill (with no curves) behind some trees and there was a car about 200 feet in front of me. I slowed down just in time, but I questioned the range of the detector. I also had another encounter with the PSP when I was traveling east, except the LEO was facing me on the opposite side of the road (by a bridge), shooting traffic going in the opposite direction, again with constant on K band, and I only got a .5 mile warning. I never dropped it or left it in the heat and I never got any calibration errors. I got it from Roy. I mount it centered and low (but high enough above my wiper blades) in my new Corolla. Has anyone else encountered this or have any suggestions about what I can do? I hear people talk about their great range, but mine appears to suck . Any advice/comments?

    Thanks,

    Mikered30

I own the same one, RX65 version 2.9. I have noticed some inconsistencies with it but they are all pretty small. I normally get a lot more than .25 miles with K band. Lots of people say they have problems with their RX65's, I would wait for some of these people to comment. Sorry to hear about it, I hope things turn out for the best. It really is a great detector.

I really did a lot of research into this detector, and I thought it was the best one in its price range. Does anyone with the newest version have this problem? I cant off hand recall the latest version, but it came out about 3 weeks or so after I bought the 2.9. kbuck1984, what kind of range do you get?

    Thanks

Normally I get great range, more than half a mile. When I drive on the interstate I get over a mile range with either instant on or constant on. It's really amazing. The newer version doesn't do anything for performance. Some people were only alerting half the bars when a radar gun was pointed straight at them. So bell fixed that. I really don't know why you're getting such poor performance since you bought it from Roy. Someone like Jim may have a better answer for you. But as far as I go, I'd say try using it more and see if it continues like that.
