Default STI mounting in a nylon bag

I just got my STI and am working out a mounting solution. I noticed in the "best of" mounting section that someone had a V1 mounted in a nylon visor bag and cut out a hole for the laser. He had the rear antenna covered as he said the radar was not affected by the nylon bag (The laser would be). Has anyone considered this type of set-up for the STI, and can you confirm if the K,Ka,X band would be affected by the nylon bag.

    Thanks

I've been looking for this bag too. The bag had a hold cut into it to allow laser to pass through. If anyone finds it, let me know.

The nylon bag shouldn't affect the radar bands. If you want any laser protection a hole in the front would be necessary.

    I have my V1 inside a pouch, here's a thread with pics: http://www.radardetector.net/Hardwir...-A4-10336t.php

You could mount an STi in the same manner, but you'd lose the display unless you cut a hole in the back of the pouch to expose it (which would reduce the stealth factor). You'd also lose rear laser detection.

To determine where to cut the hole in the front of the pouch, for laser detection, use an infrared digital camera (Sony cameras with Nightshot mode or similar) to find the laser sensor on the front of the STi, and cut the hole to expose the sensor. The radar antennas don't need to be exposed, radar will pass through nylon, vinyl or whatever the pouch is made of (as long as it's non-metallic).

Another possibility is to fabricate an enclosure to resemble a garage door opener remote, and hide the detector inside.

Default Great Ideas - Where is the laser sensor

Thanks so much for the great ideas - I just picked up a pouch at WalMart and will set it up tonight. I know where the laser detector on the STI is for the rear detection, but I could not tell where it is on the front. There is 2 bumps (I assume antenna's) on the front an a space to the side. I just want to cut the right place to allow laser. Anyone know?

    Thanks

Hey guys, I have been reading the forums for a while but have yet to post.
I was thinking of doing a stealth install similar to what you are discussing in this thread. (I have not decided on what radar detector to pick up yet). I was thinking of using an overhead console to hide the unit like this:

I could easily cut out a piece on each end to allow the laser to pass through, but will the plastic impede the radar detection? From what I have read, it looks like it should be ok. My only concern now is to make sure the bottom of the console hangs below the top of the windshield (I haven't ordered the console yet so not sure on the dimensions).

Do you think this will work or are there any other problems with an install like this (other than not seeing the unit)?
