Bel Vector 985

I found it in my garage today. My dad told me he thought it didn't work (I wouldn't throw anything anyway before testing it myself

) anyway it came up stuck on volt meter and it sounded really strange it started up really slow and said some weird letters. i thought it was toast. i got it into program mode and put it back to the normal display. i drove up the street to a shopping center which has x and k doors. It picked up both of them fine so it seems to be working. I havn't tried anything with ka yet. how is this detector? is the quality almost as good as the 995? Should I keep it as a back up or throw it up on ebay and see what i can get?

Keep it for a backup. The performance isn't too shabby and it is free right? I would def. keep it for a backup RD. You never know if your current 995 craps the bed and needs to get sent back for a week

yea you're probably right. its actually my dad's but he just got the E795 so that's his backup now until he get's his 995 back. This will be my backup

Which is better the E795 or V985? I'm assuming the 985 right?

Yep, and I wouldn't even think that it would be all that close. The reason I now have a V995 is because I was less than impressed with the E795, so I returned it and "upgraded". From what I have heard from several 985 owners...it's very similar in performance to the 995.....

The 985 was the predecessor to the RX65. Not a shabby unit at all. Top-line USA Bel, and Autoscan does X K and Ka

So you were able to get it unstuck and back into working condition? Sounds good, but I would be catious untill you can verify its performance against real threats.

Another member informed us you can check the firmware version by pressing AUD and DRK then POWER.

Well let us know what you think, I do not know what the difference between revisions. But it should not be too big of a deal. Another memebr actually has both version, 5.4 and 5.6
