Default My First 3 Days with the STI driver

Well after spending about 4 hours wiring in concealing the STI driver I was very anxious to hit the road and test it out. The actual installation was very easy and only took about 30mins. The rest of the time was spent messing around trying to find that perfect spot where it can see down the road but people (LEO's) coming down the road can't see it.

I drive past the local supermarket and while I'm just about right on top of it I get an X band and K band warning. Good! it works!

    Experience #2
Moving along at about 70km/hr in a 50km/hr I get a K band alert. I slow down with plenty of time. I don't even see the LEO yet until about 5seconds later. He's driving a stealthy blue Crown Vic and drives right by with no incident. Excellent! I likely would not have noticed that till it was too late.

I'm moving along a 40km/hr zone and decide to engage in some Corvette stupidity and light up the tires on an empty industrial street that I know no LEOs are on. Just as I'm cresting a large hill I get a K band alert. I step on the brakes and bring it down to 40km/hr and immediately like the very next second see the LEO on a side street just over the hill. That one actually seems really close with little warning.

Same as #2 but a marked cruiser heading towards me. Plenty of warning nothing too interesting.

This happened about 1.5km down the road from Experience#4 about 20seconds later. I'm going around a curve and on my left I can see a marked cruiser sitting in a driveway perpendicular to the roadway. No alerts so I assume he's not running radar. I continued moving at about 15km/hr above the speed limit. About 3seconds after I actually saw the LEO I get a K band alert and let my foot off the gas. I didn't like this at all!

Question: Did he have the radar off and just turn it on? Was it pointing down the other direction of the road? Or is my STI just not giving me a lot of warning?

Overall I'm thrilled with the performance and the undectectabliity I just need to find a laser trap. Canada day weekend no doubt will provide some opportunities.

If you didn't live in Canada I'd have questioned why you'd hardwire it right away (potential prob w/ 30 day return policy).

The LEO could have been running rear radar or it may have been instant on. Was the alert steady for quite a distance after you passed him? If so it was constant on rear radar (most likely); the signal is highly directional, unlike your local am/fm rf.

OR MAYBE YOUR REAR ANTENNA IS STRONGER!!! LMFAO!!!

(above comment for those who think the rear antenna on their V1 is "stronger")

No it was kind of a short burst and it didn't keep alerting much after I passed him so I'm guessing that you're right about it being instant on. In that situation how much time do I have to slow down. Or is it all over as soon as it happens?

it depends. If you had the V1 and the alert was pointed in your direction (constant on) you'd get it for .25-.75+ miles. I have no idea how the rear detection is on the STi, I've spent more time with the V1 so maybe jimbonzzz or someone who has both (other than AirHead) can chime in about this rear detection issue.

Do you find your STi gets warm or even hot with continuous use?

Warm in comparison to other detectors? Can't say cause this is my first. It does get warm to the the touch but not hot. I've had my stereo amps get HOT to the touch. The STI is nothing like that.
