    Default 401 Trip

Very uneventful. At no point did I unplug my STi (A2M7) to avoid detection.

On the way down I passed about 5 OPP headed the other way, none of them with radars on and ALL pacing (watch your mirrors!).

I did come across one radar trap when I was headed east, aimed at west bound traffic (just east of Gan right where the 401 rejoins for west bound traffic). He was blasting his 24.1 K and I detected him pointing the opposit direction about 500m to his rear.

On the way back, huge X band signal for about 10km west of Kingston. No radars, although I did detect an OPP with a 24.1 Kband in standby (weak signal as I passed, no one in the cop car). Again, lots of oncoming OPP pacing without radar on.

Im getting Xbands and Kbands off of door openers, and Xbands off of cell towers.

    No Ka warnings anywhere.

I just did the drive 2 times last week. One watch out, both times there was a Laser set-up near Trenton. They must have some new gear and are using it every nice sunny day. Both times it was on the 401 eastbound and I guess they did not target me as my STI did not go off. Coming home I did pick up a K band a fair ways off. Just a single beep about 1/2 mile away, then full strength when he targeted the Rabbit in front of me. STI saved me there.

401 is the route. I believe it goes from Windsor, passing through Toronto to Ottowa or maybe farther? I've been on it a few time when I've drove to Toronto. I was on QEW mostly. Next time I drive to Canada, I'll be sure to take my STi along.

Boy they (OPP) seem to set up a lot of traps in the Kingston area :!: I run the Windsor - Toronto corridor. I run into a few but not like that area.
Why :?: :?: :?: is there more in that neck of the woods, interesting. I guess during the summer we have to watch our mirrors more than ever if they are pacing

Honestly, I do the TO/Ottawa drive about 8 times a year and have been doing that for 10 or so plus years.

Im almost 20 years ticket free and almost all of those those were free of a RD.

    My tricks are:

    1) Dont drive 120-135. You have to drive faster to avoid the dreaded rear pacer. If your driving 140, the cop either has to be driving 160 (which they dont) or has to pull on to the highway right behind you in order to get you. By watching the onramps and turnarounds, you can pretty much eliminate pacing as an issue because they generally just work 10 or so km of the highway at once, and to catch a car moving 140 requires either an extreme speed, or a very long distance.

    2) Be observant. See someone on foot way up ahead? Assume its a laser trap. See something reflecting sun from behind the bushes. Assume its a cop car.

3)Stay out of the passing lane unless passing.

    4) Know where they typically set up traps.

Least of all, a RD can help you.

IMO, in Ontario, in almost all cases, the traps are set up to take down the person who is speeding AND not paying attention.

My god man, it's like the busiest thoroughfare in North America and runs up to downtown Montreal, I've been up to TO on it... (well of course when you cross into QC the route number goes from 401 to 20 but it continues). It's famous in a way as the "Canadabahn" because in the rural parts of the road between Toronto and Montreal *everybody* is going 90 miles per hour + And many go much more than that... but the design speed of the road when originally constructed was well over 100 anyway. (the *minimum* design speed of any particular stretch or curve of the 401 was 80 miles per hour, on ****ty 1950's cars on worse 1950's tires...)

Of course around Toronto you can't go that fast because of traffic...

Ah yes, my fears are relieved, you don't have to tell me twice to go 160 instead of 135  8)
