    Default Bel V995 ramping up.

I just got a V995, which I am probably returning. Anyways, I used to have the X50 and anytime I ran into an alert, it would almost always start at one bar on the meter and work its way up. With the 995, it ALWAYS starts at two bars. Has anyone else with a Bel noticed this?

I have the Bel Vector 895.

The ramping up on it stinks. It also always starts at 2 bars.

This can be good or bad, a False is ALWAYS 2 bars for me (unless I go right towards the door), so I knew when I see 2 bars its a false, until it goes to more bars, then I already know its a real LEO, because it has gone past 2 bars.

The only problem is... its hard to gauge the distance/strength of the radar source, because its odd ramp-up and always starting out at 2.

I rarely get full-alerts, normally its 1 below... and I still can't get used to the tone not going solid.

So in other words... the detection is amazing, especially for the price, but compared to the X50 the ramping up/tone alert leaves A LOT to be desired... with that said... as long as the range is good, and the ramp-up is 'acceptable'... its a fine detector in my book for the price.

That's one of the things I never cared for on any Bel... the ramp-up and the alert tones. Even their super-duper STi uses the same tones.

One of the main reasons I am returning it is because of its alert tones. Another is the fact that it is a PITA to adjust the volume (when compared to the Escorts with the dial that takes a split second to change). I can't stand the ramp up and that causes me to lose trust in the RD. Also, the curved face on it makes it difficult to see sometimes when it is mounted high on the windshield.

All in all, I haven't noticed anything special with its range and it seems to be unimpressive with its Ka detection.

***Important! I have only had the RD for three or four days, so I really can't make any firm statements about its Ka range detection - it is just what I have noticed with the two experiences I have had so far. It did alert me to to a LIDAR attack. That was nice. Too bad that if I had been speeding I have been tagged, LIDAR =

    Yeah...

I much more enjoy the ramp-up and audio alerts on my X50 and V1 over the Vector895.

That said, they are over double, and the V1 nearly triple the price of my Vector 895... so I can deal with less-then-ideal Ramp-up.

I really must say for $150 I cannot even think to ask of anything more out of the Vector 895... its simply amazing.

895 is the same as the 995, right? And you got it for $150? Nice.

No, not really, the 895 is the 995 (minus features).

Plus it was originally $200, it was on sale.

yea mine does that some times... compared to the X50 the 995 sucks which is kinda a let down.... ALTHOUGH, im basing this on an automatic door where i work and the x50 would go K 1/4 mile away while my 995 is literally 250ft and goes from K1 to full K with no ramp.... doesnt make sense

I am glad you feel the same way. I posted in another section stating that I was disappointed with the 995 and a few people jumped down my throat.

On that note, I am a member at a few different automotive forums (newcougar.org, 626forums.com, sounddomain.com...) and so far, I have met more jerks here than at any other forum.
