Default Bel 985 - configuration help (Ka / Accusweep)

The instructions for the 985 seem confusing. It mentions an Accusweep function that only looks for the specific Ka bands used by LE. However the Accusweep option ONLY appears when you disable Ka Superwide.

Should I disable Ka Superwide and rely on Accusweep, or should I keep it on Ka Superwide? I've never gotten a Ka false (just X and K from stores). Our state doesn't use X AFAIK, only for highway signs and what not. I keep it on the highway setting because it seems like it increases the range somewhat.

    Any ideas on the Accusweep?

If you're in the United States, accusweep would normally be the way to go. If you live somewhere that uses Ka photo radar though, you'll need to keep it in superwide mode.

Where may I find a listing of places that are likely to use Ka photo radar?

Last I knew there was some in Arizona, but it was not widespread at all. You rarely even hear about photo radar in the US any more, and when you do, it's normally K band, which wouldn't be effected by running accusweep.

I have run controlled tests against a Stalker Ka band radar with my 985. I have not seen any difference in range between Accusweep and Superwide Ka modes. And I have seen no difference in immediacy of response either when hit by instant on.

The only difference I see is that there are fewer Ka band false alarms in Accusweep mode. But the amount of falsing in Superwide is not excessive. Also I cannot pick up a local town's Stalker ATR while in Accusweep mode. That is because it transmits on 35.2 GHz. From what I have read there are not many ATRs like this, but be aware there are some.

Also, my comments about Accusweep do not apply to USA mode on the RX-65. Many RX-65 users do report longer range (verified by GOL) in USA mode.
