Thread: Impala SS '07

    Default Impala SS '07

Anybody got one? I just bought one and ordered another remote for my STI driver. Wondering what ideas anybody has for installation. http://www.chevrolet.com/impala/

This car is stupid fast. I feel like Ricky Bobby in this car. !

Seriously, any help I could get would be great. I have a GM certified tech that is willing to get up in my dash for me so I am not worried about that.

    Thanks

Nice car hope you like it...

I would do a hardwire installation and mount the STi high above the RVM.

Sorry I can't help much with your install...I'm unfamiliar with the car on a more intimate basis.... ops:

However, if you're mechanically inclinded, it should be easy enough to use an Add-A-Circuit fuse (available either here through Roy [look under "radar detector accessories"] or, rather much more cheaply, at your local AutoZone/Murray's Discount Auto/PepBoys/Advance Auto/etc.) to tap your interior fuse-block.

Just wanted to say "cool ride!" 8)

Hey Airmore what would be the chances the angle would be too high and the headliner would interfere?

It was a problem on the earlier Impala dont know about the '07. I was able to mount above between the visor and th headliner.

+1 on the Add A Circuit.... you might want to consider a visor mount as well

Well I have a rather steep angle on my windshield... probably as steep or even steeper then yours (if windshield angle is what you are alluding to). Also its a very tight fit for me as well... but I took my time and made it work with both my V1 and Belscorts...

And honestly... if you cant mount about the RVM, you can always put it directly below it. ('Orbital75' has a very nice clean X50 set-up in his car mounted just below the RVM)... You can try to find pictures of that.

Here is my set-up (Which granted: Changes all the time):

Although I have a very different vehicle, I wanted to also share and say that at one point, I also had my detector "under" the interior RVM.

While I liked this position in terms of its more direct sightline (i.e. to scan the detector, I would have to move my eyes less off-road), it did somewhat further compromise my visual field in-relation to the interior RVM doing so itself.

Despite my interior RVM being "double-hindged," thus able to be shifted within 1" of the headliner, it still hangs somewhat low when paired to my seating position, and can impair vision to the 2-o'clock sector (i.e. vehicle coming from the right, approaching a 4-way stop intersection).

You'll want to review your setup to be sure that this doesn't happen to you, too, if you choose this lower mounting position.

That is exactly why I keep mine above the RVM... it took forever to get both the V1 mount and the Belscort mount in just the right location... its really squeezed in there...

I found though... that at intersections (4ways) I had to lean forward (because just as you describe): to really get a view of that part of the intersection... granted I was just as safe, because I made it a habit to lean forward and look everytime. (As a motorcyclist myself... I know how terrible most car drivers are at looking out for others on the road).

So I agree with TSi+WRX: Safety (yours and others) is a concern when mounting your RD.
