    Default heat problems

Just bought and set up a Bel STi xr. Within the first week i've had three "Service Required " alarms. I rang the maintainence guys and was told it was heat related. I live in the sub-tropics, and the inside of my car gets very hot if it is left in the sun. So now I remove the unit from its visor mount, and either take it with me or wrap it and put it under the seat. This seems to work. But there should be more about heat problems in the manual.... .....

    What version is it?

You can see the version number by pressing and holding the Vol and Sens buttons while you power up the unit. Watch closely because it scrolls past quickly, it'll be something like :-

    A3
    M8

This will also set the unit back to factory defaults.

Yes, this is a heat related failure and you should return the unit for a replacement today. Don't wait it isn't going to get better with time. Many users reported heat related issues with the earlier software Revisions of the STi. The problems were reportedly fixed with the latest released code of A4M9.

    Default heat problems

Thanks for help. My rev is A4M9, but if my unit is left in a hot car the metal body of the unit is almost to hot to touch. I'll keep it out of the heat for a while and see......

They do get quite hot though, although you said something about the car being hot, this must effect the STi some how? AC?

well ive had my STi for about 3 months and never had a problem, I live in the desert and it still goes strong even in direct sun..sometimes I place the detector in the A/C vent for a few mins if it is over 100 degrees or so out side.

Call in the daytime to the 800 on the Manaul back..I was treated like a vip with the sti.

also total power down would boot mine back up until i could stand to part a few days with it

When I first got my STi, I was amazed at how hot it got. This may sound radical, but I devised a mount using a 12 volt 4 inch computer fan. I have never had a problem and now the STi is just slightly warm to the touch as it has constant circulation around it.
