    Default Hardwire Question

Can I modify the Direct Wire Smart Cord that came with the STI so that I dont have to use the mute button portion? Can I just lop it off? The reaso I ask is that I have a very convenient location right in my headliner to install the hardwire, but the mute button portion makes it awkward.

    Two suggestions.

If you are not planning to use the mute button, just tape it into a ball and leave it buried.

If you would like to use the mute, say like coming out from your seat, you can use a regular telephone wire (modular male and female on ends) to extend the length of the power cord going to the detector.

Or just get a straight hardwire cord on Ebay and sell your Smart Cord there and make a little profit

I have the smart cord but i am still trying to find the best placement for the mute switch, right now it is just sitting on my dash to the left of my steering wheel. The fuse panel is under the dash on the left side by my clutch so it was just the logical place to set it.

What are other people doing as far as placing the mute button?

On both of my Super Duty's, the mute button is threaded between the panel and the speedo lens on the lower right side of the lens.
