    Default Self calibration-service unit alert

Has anyone ever gotten an alert on their bell that said something like that?

The other day i fired up my 995 and it started as normal. If i remember right, about 3 or 4 seconds later it said self calibration and then said service unit. I turned it off and then back on and havn't seen it since.

Its been working ok from what i can tell.

    Anyone have this happen?

By the way, i also noticed that it would retart occasionally but I thought it might be because the power cord to the cig lighter came unplugged.

It shouldnt say service unit, it should say Service required, which means you need to send your unit back in.

Just by making it go away doesn't mean the unit is working 100% effectively and after more and more time, you may start to see more issues...

Some people have done a simple reset of the unit as you... and it worked for them... but I would send it in.

If your still under warrenty, your good to go and definitely send it in. If not, be sure to include a money order or check for at least $85 or a credit card number that they can bill the repair costs to.

My RX-65 did the same thing. It says SELF CAL. I called Bel and they told me that a self calibration takes place. They asked me if it said something like SERVICE REQUIRED afterward. I said no. They said it happens sometimes when you leave it plugged in at night. Hah? Whatever. They said not worry then.

The unit calibrates itself all the time. If it takes longer than it expects to calibrate, it flashes "Self Cal" on the display. If it goes for a while and it finds its bearings and calibrates, then the message disappears and it works fine. If it can't calibrate itself properly, then it will eventually go "Service Required" instead.

Its actually a 995 and not a 955 but not sure it that makes very much of a difference besides on features.

The problem has gone away and was only that one isoloated incident i wrote about before. It still picks up plenty of kband falses and had a few ka encounters since then so I guess its alright.

Now my RX-65 says Serviced Required blinking and blairing at me after I turn the car on. I turned the RD completely off and turned it back on and have not had a problem after that. It's been a couple of weeks now. It detects all bands the same as before. Question. Do I still return it for repair or continue with it until the next encounter?
