Default STi seems to be in fulltime mute... any suggestions?

So my STi seems to be making no sounds at all, even when a threat is found. I tried changing the volume obviously and even reset it several times to factory defaults but still no sound. I have only had it for a week. Any suggestions about what else I should try?

    Thanks.

So no other things to try? I guess when I go home tonight I'll at least plug in a earphone to see if it's just the external speaker or if it's really in some infinite mute stage.

The STi is shipped with a "powered speaker" that requires hardwiring. When you say external speaker is that what you mean????
If so then just unplug the powered speaker and the unit's internal speaker will be activated. If you mean the unit's internal speaker, then yes, the speaker has failed. Oh, there is the possibility that the Volume/Mute switch is stuck. You can test that simply be pressing the Sens button, even with the unit muted, it will beep when the Sens is changed.

Sorry, I didn't mean external speaker, I meant the internal one isn't working. I have tried pressing the mute button to change the volume and even tried resetting it multiple times this morning. I will try the earphone later today to see if it's the internal speaker or all sounds coming out of the STi. This is a little frustrating after just a week of having a $450 detector... :x

Hmm, so now I am a little nervous. Went to lunch today and the RD worked perfectly fine. I guess I'll give it a couple more days since I'm well within my 30 days to return it, but this definitely has me a little nervous. I'll keep you guys posted.

Have you tried driving through a parking lot to see if it alerts?

STI is a quiet detector so I have heard...

Are you sure they were running radar on your encounters?

Sorry I guess I didn't make it clear. I'm talking about it being completely silent *when displaying a radar on the display* and even with the remote mute button flashing red. Though it seems to have worked the last two times I was in the car... on the way to and then back from lunch. I will keep an eye on it and keep you guys posted. Sound is very important to me with the STi because I don't always have the display on for stealth reasons.

Try finding a place (shopping mall etc.) where you see the unit alerting. If there is no sound, plug in a set of earbuds (mp3 walkman style) and see if they work. If they do, then you have a bad speaker or a faulty wire. If not, then its probably time for a service.
