I have had my RDD (Whistler Pro73, BEL RX 65 and now STi) mounted low and high. My Pro73 missed a laser "hit" mounted high as the LEO was pointing at my headlight (no front plate). There wasn't enough spillage from the cars ahead for the detector to collect. Or the Pro73 just wasn't that good..... In any case, I have yet to miss a radar "hit" low as the beam is so wide and reflecting off so much stuff that the detector has no trouble collecting the signal. I haven't seen the laser cop since that one encounter. Even low I got a 3-4 mile warning from my RX65 on an open stretch of highway.

On a side note, I couldn't be more impressed with the over-the-hill and around curve warning I get from my BEL's. Plenty of time to slow down before he even sees me.
    Welcome aboard!

Nice post. Anyway, be aware of California's law prohibiting having anything attached to the windshield with suction cups. I'm not sure how this law came about, but I guess its because items attached with suction cups occasionally do fall off and an accident could be caused when the driver suddenly reaches for the device which has fallen off of the windshield.
    ?????
I've lived here all my life (well, except a 5-yr stint in SLC) and never heard that one. I know there isn't supposed to be anything "attached" to the windshield that could/would block your view. Which makes my rear-view mirror and rain-sensing wiper sensor illegal! I will investigate, though.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26708.htm There it is. I guess if I mounted my detector high I would be in compliance as it seems to meet the provisions of 11-a as long as the SWS is turned on

I have never seen or heard of that law actually being enforced (although it does exist and in Minnesota also)

I live in MN and my friend was busted at intersection in Burnsville for having his mounted in middle of windshield. I have my 995 mounted low just above wipers, to hopefully get around the obstructed view law here in MN. 995 has done me quite well with radar, and 3 out of 6 hits on laser. The three misses were at very close encounters, and wasnt speeding at the time thankfully.

Watch out for the hot sun, it fries RD's. I recommend a visor clip so your unit is not in direct line of site with the sun.
