Audi Q7 Setting Off My STi like an Xmas Tree

Not sure if it was a leaky detector or not (couldn't see in the car too well) but I had an Audi Q7 in front of me on a back road this morning and my STi was giving me a K band warning on/off/on/off/on/off. Pretty strong signal, all the way up to a 9, down to 0 and back up to 9. Any thoughts?

Had the same experience yesterday with an Infinity...not sure what the deal was. He did have a cobra in the window, so I'm not sure if it was the car or the cobra?? :?

Pro78 gave a constant 5-9 strength K-band alert.

That Q7 probably had the side assist feature, which works on K band (WHY, Audi, WHY!!??) Apparently it's a pulsed signal that RDs are supposed to be able to filter out, but not all do (I hear V1s with POP enabled have this problem). Was POP enabled on your STi?

dmo1028's encounter was probably a result of the Crapra. Infiniti's adaptive cruise control causes laser, not radar falses.

I agree. I was told the new infinities where going to use a different type of laser to not screw with us.

This is not uncommon with Q7, I read something about this recently, has to do with adaptive cruise control or something

Q7 has a (optional i think) system that warns the driver if there is a car in the blind spot and that operates apparently on K band.

Yes, it's optional, they call it "Side Assist". Audi's adaptive cruise uses a high frequency radar, well off the bands used by police radar. Why they went with K band for the side assist though, who knows.

That said, I've seen a few Q7s recently and none have set off my detectors, yet at least.

Maybe they aren't aware of it. It's possible they never tested an STi against a Q7 with side assist. They could probably fix it with firmware if they are motivated to do it. I don't recall my RX65 ever falsing around a Q7, and my V1 doesn't either.

if you find one again put it on tech display and see what it's picking up. use that information and relay it to Beltronics maybe they could do something about it.
