Default First Bel have a couple ?'s

Hello all I'm very new here and kinda ashamed I didn't find this forum before I bought that cobra ugg.. Anyway I ended up returning it for it's lackluster performance, due to finicial restraints I ended up deciding on the Vector 940 sw ver 6.2.

I've noticed that with POP enabled I do get more false alerts but the alert comes up POP followed quickly by a K alert, is that normal? And it will also switch between X and K alerts in places the cobra falsed an X alert.. Sorry if these questions are dumb I'm still a bit wet behind the ears. Thanks in advance for your anwsers.

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. I too just bought a 940 and I'm interested in hearing some responses to your question.

The general consensus on this forum is to keep POP off. Most will report having POP off will_reduce_false_hits. I have found the STi not alerting to other Whistler or Cobra detectors with POP turned off.

Also with POP turned off you should see an increase in range.

    Welcome to the forum.

Rob - thanks for getting one more Cobra off the road.

Rob is from NJ, they primarily use X and Laser, a little K band I heard. No POP is my understanding, but I'll let the NJ folks chime in.

The same thing can happen if your radar detector is detecting X and/or K door openers but suddenly weakly detects a Ka band radar. The detector will then decide to display the very weak Ka band threat in order to make you aware of it, and usually will lock onto the Ka threat if the Ka signal is continuously detected even though the signal is weaker.
The progressive part I agree with, but I don't think that's causing it. I noticed that the 940/955 does this and not the 995/V1 - with the V1 I would have got multi-bogey alert.

Thanks for your replies I have disabled POP. And as a result have seen an increase in range thanks... As for what bands we use in NJ, NJSP use primarily X band however city PD varies.. I have seen K heavily used and have encountered Ka also, though I have yet to see Laser but have read somewhere here that Laser is used (maybe further north).. Mind you I'm from the southern end of the state.

As for the RD itself I must say I am quite impressed with the range and sensitivity over the cobra.. Returning that piece of junk was the best decision I have made IMO.
