Default WTF? Why mute button wire so short? HELP!!!

Installing my STi right now and had planned on running the mute button down near my hood release but it wont even stretch as far down as the middle of my A-pillar on the drivers side from the rear view mirror side. The other issue is that since it wont make it that far it pretty much renders it useless. That said, I like to tuck it away inside of my headliner but cant because the piece is too big to tuck????

    Need suggestions/advice asap, please!!! Thanks.

This is just a standard phone RJ11 cord. You can extend the wire on two ways:
*get a phone cord, cut at desired lenght and then attach male on one and female connector on the other end of the cord.To do this you need special tool to attach both connectors.Ask in electro-shop about this tool. This is good way to extend the cord, but the downside is you won't be able to tuck those connectors in headliner because they're too big

*cut the mute button wire, take phone cord cut at desired lenght and solder both phone cord ends on mute-wire,make sure the wires are not touching each other and wrap with electro-tape.This way cord will be slim enough to tuck in.Or,if you don't want to solder, you can use connectors with screws

I guess, but why would they make that wire so short? You would think that the actual power cord would be the shorter of the two, if any...The power cord is fine (too much in fact) but I wanted the mute button down by my hood release....
