One of the best movie moments of all time! And one of the best movies aswell.Originally Posted by jimbonzzz

Maybe other people complained about it and they just increased the timer on when it will change to light settings....?
This thread should be stickied...
GSP doesn't have any MPH radar to my knowledge. But come on down to Cobb County, there's plenty of it here, and you may even get to try it against a BEE-3 if you're lucky!
Thanks for sharing Mem-tek, this is why I love you.
I'm going to have to test out this auto-dimming theory tomorrow with my STI, which supposedly should have the fix. I normally keep it set to MIN so I haven't noticed yet, but I do remember when first playing with it when I originally bought it how it was such a BAD design how quickly it used to change. I hope it is slow now... just so I feel comfortable about having the update... though I'll def continue to keep it on MIN (I keep it up in a visor pouch).
Well I am trying to figure this dimming thing out. I had my detector on tonight and powered up, but it went dim as soon as it started up. I turned on my dome light and it didn't get darker, but my car is very dark inside and the lights are on the mirror. I am going to test the dim theory in my other cars and see if that makes a difference.
I have noticed that ever since I got the detector back from BEL I pick up 34.7 like a champ. Today I had a LEO turn around in his cruiser, lean over his back seat and hit me with 34.7 out the rear window when I took off from a stoplight (not a good example of my improved range). He pulled me over for doing 29 in a 35. No I didn't mistype 29 in a 35. He said that the stretch of road before the stoplight was a school zone, and the speed was reduced to 25 when the light flashes. He then said, "I saw you speeding but I couldn't get a read on you." I said I was not speeding sir, my friend who was in the car also said, "he wasnt speeding back there." Then he said, "well I turned around and got you with the radar doing 29." I said, "sir the sign before the stoplight said END SCHOOL ZONE, so I thought the speed was 35. I said, "I did not intentionally speed in front of you." Then he said, I know you didnt, just make sure you watch your speed in the school zone." And then I was on my way. I think the only reason he let me go was because I had a witness in the car with me.
Where is the sensor for the ambient light on the RD? I would like to physically cover it and check the dimming effect. Or maybe I am not starting up properly, I have it set to start fast on TECH DISP.

The photocell sensor is located just to the right of the alphanumeric display. I should have explained though, that the STi with the new firmware flash will instantly set its display brightness according to the ambient light level when you power it up. So, try this test:
At night, power up your re-flashed STi. Its display should instantly be at minimal or near minimal brightness. If it isn't at near minimal brightness, wait up to 30 seconds until it is. Then shine a bright flashlight at the right side of the display. You will recall that on earlier STi firmware versions, the display would quickly brighten due to the stronger ambient light level. What you will now find is that your re-flashed STi will take over 60 seconds to slowly brighten up to daylight brightness while you are shining a flashlight at it.
Anyway, this brightness thing is the only method which I have so far been able to find to confirm that a STi has the latest firmware flash which fixes the 33.8 bug.

Well I think I am good with the 33.8 flash. I did the light test and think I passed. However, during my test I noticed that the display changed in three stages. For example, if I started with the display low, and then put the flashlight on the sensor, it would take about 10-15 sec an go to medium, then 10-15 sec to go dark. Is this what I was supposed to see, or was it just supposed to go straight from a low display to dark display in 30 sec? I didn't ever pay attention to the auto dim before my flash, so I don't really have anything in my memory to compare with.
