Default Charge for STI 33.8 fix?

I've been reading about everyone on here getting their 33.8 Ka fix done in about 2 weeks from Bel.... For free.

I just received a letter from them stating they want $60 to upgrade my firmware. That's after $30 shipping... Did anyone else have to pay for this service? I don't recall ANYONE else saying that they had..

I shall discuss with them tomorrow, but thought this would be interesting information to have for that discussion..

    Hi Regis,

    My two cents...

I suggest you call Escort's customer service number rather than Beltronic's customer service number.

I would tell them that the 33.8 bug is a known bug which affects all STi radar detectors produced before approximately mid to late June of 2007. The 33.8 bug is a known product defect which should be fixed for free, and that other people have gotten their out-of-warranty STi radar detectors re-flashed for free to fix the 33.8 bug. Also let them know that you know that they don't even have to open up your STi in order to re-flash it with the latest firmware which fixes the 33.8 bug, assuming that your STi has otherwise been performing properly.

    Best Regards,

    --Michael

    Default New update

I called last week and the customer service was great. Mine is over 1.5 years old and they send me out a pre-paid shipping label and did not charge me anything. Just call Bel and explain you would like the new firmware update to address the bug - that is all I did.

Talked to them today, sent them my purchase invoice (about 1.5 years old), and they said that's all they needed and will upgrade it free of charge, so it's all good!

It is just annoying that you have to fight and complain for something they know is their fault. Such poor business ethics it makes me sick sometimes. Why do we stand for this as consumers?

I hope when/if the stealth V1 comes out, we all stop buying bel products and see if they will fix up their business.

I had to pay $60.00 for it and pay for the shipping on the way there. For the return post they used UPS and they charged me $12.00 brokerage. FedEX is the way to go, UPS is to expensive.

i didn't even supply a serial number, since i called from the office and my detector was at home. i got it off of ebay so i definitely had no invoice. they still gave me a case number and charged nothing. i paid ~5 bucks for USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation and they paid for shipping back. sounds like you need to talk to someone else
