Bel STi FCC ID relation

Just curious about one thing. I noticed if you look just above the pwr button inside the red plastic cover there is an ID that looks like this: "0xxxM3-!", I also noticed my FCC ID ends with "M3" but has an extra digit at the begining and the numbers are different. Just wondering if these numbers should match. I have the susption that the interior of the device has been swapped. Thanks!

The Sti's FCC ID is QL4G8M3

QL4 is Beltronics Grantee Code. All Beltronics detectors start with this FCC ID.
G8M3 is the Product Code.

We know that the M3 represents the detector's platform/antenna assembly.

With that being said, the FCC ID is always the same for this hardware... but does that number next to the display have any purpose? My main concern is that I think the guts of the unit was swapped during a "beltronics test drive" because I have a "2707" and according to the dimmer test I have the bug issue.

Mine is built in Aug '06 (and using it since Sept '06) and no need for any flash whatsoever, probably I will keep it until it dies on me and then buy a brand-new one...

I would do the same but my area is possesed with the 33.8GHz ka band and with the bug this would not be very wise to use. Not to mention I've been getting ****load of X falses and low distance ka band warnings. Might as well since i have a 1 year warranty.

As I said before, Toronto Police uses MPH 33.8 Ka radar units exclusively and so far I have not got any tickets at all (laser or radar) since May '05, before the STI I was using an Escort S2... but if yours is still under warranty, yes, send it back to Beltronics for FREE repair, update or straight exchange...

All Bel STi's have a FCC ID of QL4G8M3. As mentioned, QL4 will be found on all Bel products since this Bel's FCC assigned company ID. The G8M3 part refers to the radar platform design used inside of the STi. Here is a shot of the display board inside my STi:



The alphanumeric numbers which you see on the display board (aside from the "M3" within the code to indicate that it is appropriate for the M3 platform) merely indicate the particular revision for the display board. Aside from the "M3" part of the display board designation, the rest of the alphanumeric numbers have no relationship to the FCC ID on the sticker on the outside of your STi.

It is possible that Bel may change the alphanumeric designation on the display board. The likely reasons for any revisions to the display board numerology are the fact that several Avago alphanumeric display models have been discontinued by Avago Technologies and subsequently are now manufactured by other companies yet may have very slightly different specifications, and/or that Bel may have switched to a different display dimming photocell which requires slightly different circuitry on the display board, and/or that Bel may have switched to a different manufacturer for the display circuit board itself.

Bel and Escort (one and the same company which we here refer to as "Belscort") are very good about keeping track of even very small design and parts source changes so that they can quickly track down the source of any component problems.
