Default truck driver & have ? about STI driver

FREEBIRD! Glad to see you chime in here(not that I dont appreciate ALL of you). That is exactly what I experience with the 995 is after passing a known source like the k band speed signs they have along the 4 lane in a small town near me. They have 1 facing the northbound and 1 facing the southbound side of the highway and it is a straight stretch on both ways for at least 1/ 1/2 miles from each curve to the signs. My 995 on k signs will alert an easy 4-5 seconds before the STI and hold it for 6-8 seconds longer after the STI has lost it. I now these are speed signs, but they are still k band radar. I guess I just thought that the 34.7 on the STI would easily surpass any 995 but that may have been an unreal expectation.I will be making a run to st. louis tonight and will hopefuly have some good encounters with 34.7 ka as this is the standard here in Mo. mostly. Give me more miles with it before I send it back or make any concrete comments. Just for your info, last week before I got my STI, I was heading east on 70 and at the 211 mile marker got a hit of 34.686 ka. There are some nice rolling hills for the next several miles and it would lose some signal down in the dips but at about the 213 1/2 it became constant and never lost signal. At the 215 1/4 on the shoulder shooting out the rear window was a local and the signal never changed frequency. I knew this was the source also due to my C.B. confirming it. So do the math here; thats 4 1/4 mile alert from a leo running c/o ka!! I have yet to see more than 1 mile out of this STI. Just hope it proves my a real idiot and makes a liar out of me tonight. I will check back after my run and see what happens. Later.

    Default wow

Wow, I feel I chimed in a little late on this one. Being also a truck driver, I have to say the Bel STi is very handy to use in the big truck. Since I have to change up rd's quite often, I give myself a choice between the Bel STi (rev A4M9), V1 (3.826), X50 (Rev 5) and the Escort "original" 8500 (Rev 15) in the truck. I used to use the Bel 995 which I enjoyed and a friend of mine is enjoying presently. But I feel the Bel STi may give you a little more range as compared to the Bel 995. This is my personal feelings. You will really enjoy the off axis 35.5 ka band detection of the STi. In terms of off-axis 35.5 ka band detection, it is the best and no I am NOT biased (since I use all of the others listed above and some not listed. Have fun driving truck and make sure you pull down the rd when you notice a scale house is open and not to forget some of the tollbooths. I have seen troopers in PA looking on truck drivers dashboards for rd's before so I am warning you, have that CB radio on (just in case).

Always glad to share my experience with fellow truckers and forum members here. As far as STI performance goes its a love hate thing with me. It goes like this, some of my alerts are .5 to 1 mile only and I say to myself man I could almost see the leo before my STI did. I get sometimes frustrated and think this thing is not working properly, and then.. I get a killer alert of 3.5 miles over rollercoaster type hills (like on I-70 in Missouri) and it puts my anxiety to rest. Put some more miles on that New STI Stamp4 to determine if its in need of a checkup before sending it in. In our profession we see more alerts on a daily basis than many in a month. But my experiences with STI, 995, and X-50
have been the same as I will state here.. SUB par Performance is normally not a faulty detector but a savy LEO location over a hill or around a corner, or something to do with the radar source being blocked by something, normally patrol cars radar being blocked by captured victims vehicle. etc. Happy hunting guys and Keep safe.

Great info guys and THANKS! Just got in awhile ago from getting my load out of the "gateway" and had a couple more encounters. First was a sherrif sitting off to my left after I came round a corner and up a slight hill; the surprise is I got a nice .7 mile alert on K BAND BEFORE I even got to the "county mounty". This was not bad considering the terrain guys, trust me. So it may not be THAT bad on k band after all. We will see. Also got 1 bonofide c/o 34.7 ka alert again on 70 with a local heading west on the opposite side of road: alert distance was right at .6 mile. Not that great but there was alot of traffic between him and I which will make a big difference. Your right about us having more alerts in a day than most get in a month, so I will keep my fingers crossed and keep pounding the STI this week and keep ya'all posted as I get results. I will be heading across Iowa tomm. so I should have at least one 33.8 KA encounter tomm. if not more. I will talk you guys then. Safe travel to all.

Another thing I do is clock milage to the LEO, but if he is rolling towards me I also clock back to his original location i got the 1st alert. I figure if I meet him at .7 after first alert then another .7 or at 1.4 I will be at his original position when I got the first alert. This works well to give an approximate location. I normally find his original location is cresting a large enough hill to keep radar blocked or coming around a corner that prevents a longer total alert.
Be safe stamp4 try to stay dry, lots of rain and storms in Iowa. I squeeked thru there last week just before the big storms hit. Being lazy at home now, be back out this weekend.
