I'm positive that the shell is plastic. I think the GX65 is one heck of a neat looking radar detector! I can't wait to have a look at the insides of one.
Bel's name is Alertlock, not autolock......just like the 9500i you have to manually lock out locations. I am almost certain.
As for the price between this and the 9500xi...............most consumers have no idea that Bel and Escort are the same company. So when they shop for a detector they might not even compare the brands, since different outlets sell one or the other.
My point is that 30 bucks can get you a blue display and the autolock, but we know that but many people will have no idea.
X2, and there is always personal preference. I don’t like the look of the GX65 but someone else would. Also there is brand loyalty.
If it came down to feature to feature the 9500 series wins (Expert mode, Blue display, auto modes) but thirty dollars is thirty dollars.
I bet its much more stable on the windshield over the 9500i.

I am one of those people who prefers a red display over a blue display, prefers to manually lock out false alert locations myself, and who actually prefers Bel's alert tones and ramp-up profiles. But thats just me. Bel and Escort radar detectors have always had distinctly different alert tones and ramp-up profiles. Its all really just a matter of personal choice.
That is true the Bels are different in terms of ramp up and the Bel engineers put their own touch on it.
Now the true test how is the ramp up????????????????? better not be like the sti.
As for 30 bucks more for the 9500ix that is nothing to pay for the blue display and autolock, which is great feature IMHO.
