Default Anyone know where to get an RX65 serviced?

My RX65 needs service, unfortunately I don't have any of my original receipt info, wondering if anyone knows another place besides Beltronics that could service it? Thanks.

    Hi Ccarrara,

There are no other places to get your RX65 serviced for several reasons:

-- Special testing equipment is needed, which isn't readily available elsewhere, to either test the performance of the radar detector or to evaluate the problem, particularly if the problem is on the local oscillator board within the radar horn.

-- The software (firmware code) is highly proprietary and can't be updated by anyone other than Beltronics.

-- There are no public or dealer service manuals since special testing equipment is needed and since a lot of the design and all of the software (firmware) is highly proprietary.

-- A wave soldering station is generally required for component and daughter board replacements.

On the bright side, the service fee isn't outrageous (usually $80 as I recall), and your RD will be repaired, flashed with the latest proprietary firmware code for performance and general operation, extensively tested, and then shipped back to you via UPS 2 day air. Figure that a repair tech spends on average 2 to 3 hours repairing a radar detector and then testing it. Then figure in replacement parts and the return shipping costs. Overall their standard out-of-warranty repair fee is a really good deal! Servicing RDs definitely is not a profit making segment of Bel/Escort's daily operations. It actually loses money. The only "profit" which the Bel/Escort service department generates is customer satisfaction and hopefully potential return customers down the road.

One of my radar detectors is the Vector 995 I picked up from a friend. When it needed service, I called Beltronics. I paid a nominal fee (I thought it was $60) and they spiffed it up and it's been perfect ever since.

Didin't know they would do a regular service like that, should've thought of that, but the website just made it seem like without proper receipts they wouldn't handle the equipment period. Well even if it is 80 bucks or w/e, that sure beats buying a new one lol, and looks like I'll be giving them a call, thanks a lot!!

It has to have the serial number sticker attached, or they won't service it.
