Default X50 for service. NEED another RD.

Well, my X50 blue finally blew the speaker, and I'll be shipping to Escort for work(out of warranty) this week.

I'm in need of a secondary(possibly primary) RD anyway. I nearly bought the RX65 3 years ago but got a killer deal at BB for the X50 PLUS a product rplacement plan that served me well for 2 years.

I am still considering the RX65, but wondered if:

1.It still had some issues with ramp up and ramp down/threat display lingering. Have the K-band issues been improved?

    2. I mount my RD to the right of the RVM--is this trouble with the display angle?

    3. I assume KA is still damn good?

    4. Am I missing anything? It's been a few years shopping for a RD. I'm not really interested in spending more than $300, although the STi Driver looks sick.

Chances are if you bought your x50 3 years ago you have the older s7 platform which had great ramp up.

Since you have the x50 mounted high it is easier to see than the Rx65, since the Rx 65's display has slight step on the bottom and is not totally flat like the x50's display

The newer Rx65 uses the M4 platform which is not known to have that good of ramp up.

I would wait until the x50 comes back and use that, typically when you send it in for service they do a full inspection and testing of it, so it will perform almost if not as good as new.

Well, I have the version 6.1 on the X50. I bought it June of 2006, so I think it too has the M4. Also, my current DD vehicle is an RX8, so although the RD is mounted high--it's not much higher than my forehead due to windshiled height relative to seating position.

What about the performance of the current rx65's relative to my questions above? I will def be keeping the X50, but want another RD anyhow---since I've been away from the sight for sometime, I haven't read the opinions trend on the rx65 as of late...

OK, so the same platforms, performance will be super close, might be some performance variations. Your X50 might come back with the latest rev. too.

biggest noticeable difference is the rx65 has voice alerts where the x50 may have a better ramp up but no voice alerts...so the voice alerts help alot if you do have to mount it high and are not able to see it as easily

you could also look into the long forgotten c65 by escort...basically the same detector as the rx65 without voice alerts and ku band

Better off getting the Rx65 10 bucks cheaper. The c65 was designed for warehouse clubs, unless you can find it at a good price at Costco. Orig it was posted on Escorts site for $299, which made it a decent deal, but since then they have raised the price to $349.

I just remembered that about a year ago, the Pilot travel center near me had the STi for $379! Would this be considered an authorized and warrantieable unit?

I've read briefly that the STi seems to be superior to the Rx65 all around. Also, just check out GOL's 2007 tests--the X50 did kinda crappy relative to V1, Sti, and 9500.

$379 is a steal for it, if new and sealed in box.
